Next Gears of War game revealed

Game Informer is being exceptionally coy about the reveal of its latest cover which displays the latest game in the Gears of War series. To the point that we'd hesitate to call it a cover reveal, considering half of it is shrouded in darkness.

Though they're saying it's the next game in the Gears of War series, they're not calling it Gears of War 4, and the character in the center of the image - bound in chains - has had his torso blocked out. While we've got no idea what's going on here, it's exciting news nonetheless.

Perhaps more exciting than ever considering it hasn't been emblazoned with the GoW4 logo. Could this mean that Microsoft is producing a spinoff series like Halo ODST? We'd love to see a Gears of War game that broke from the series' conventions and focused on a character besides Marcus Fenix.

But according to Game Informer we'll have to wait until Microsoft's official press conference to get the full details. With all this said, we called this one.

I bet it's going to be an alternate telling of a prequel tiled GEARS OF W4R: ascension only on the 3ds and windows phone.

Who the hell owns a windows phone?

Is it just me or does this guy in the cover silhouette, along with the parts of the image we can make out resemble Richard Prescott. i know it wouldn't make sense because from what we've seen he's dead and during the pendulum period there's no reason for him to be cuffed(from what i know at least) but it does looks like a match(to me).

Q: Who fucking cares? A: Not me, and not anyone with a brain.

People enjoy different things than you. Is that hard to understand?

You're about as lame as your comment
  • MayorOfAmerica - May 31, 2012 1:12 p.m.

I have a brain, and I DO care. I am glad to know that you don't though. Let's make that the news story of the day!

GOW4 stands for both Gears of War and God of War and oddly enough they are both prequels dated before the first game... GROOVY...
  • MrDobble - May 31, 2012 10:25 a.m.

Must be pre-GOW1. Where Marcus Fenix was in the Pendulum Wars and then taken to prison, where GOW1 starts. Exciting stuff :D

I get the strangest feeling that, though that seems the most obvious answer, it's probably not. For some reason, I just don't think that's Marcus. Even though that IS his shoulder armour design. Isn't it?
  • samsneeze - May 31, 2012 10:22 a.m.

Microsoft is probably pushing this one. I mean, after Gears of War 3, they would have been down to what? Two exclusives? Yeah, good luck with that.
  • Tjwoods18 - May 31, 2012 10:05 a.m.

Blaah, just shows you that epic does not want to get off of the COG gravy train.
  • archnite - May 31, 2012 9:42 a.m.

I must be Master Chief why else would they block out his face?
  • wingsdjy - May 31, 2012 9:41 a.m.

Since Gears of War 1 started with Dominic breaking Marcus out of prison, I'm guessing this is a prequel covering the events leading to Marcus' arrest.

    Freaking excellent! Pendulum Wars please!!
