Need for Speed: Most Wanted poor Wii U and Vita sales meant no Rivals

Need for Speed: Rivals won't appear on Wii U or PS Vita, even after EA and Criterion made what they consider its predecessor's definitive version on Nintendo's latest console. Need for Speed: Most Wanted just didn't sell well enough to justify the continued effort, Creative Director Craig Sullivan told TheSixthAxis.

"We did a load of extra work on the Wii U version, and we had a lot of guys working on that stuff, you know?" Sullivan said. "It didn’t really sell that many, in terms of the Wii U market. I would love for it to have, because we put so much effort into that, trust me. I’d love for it to be way bigger than it was, and the same for the Vita."

With Rivals coming to both next-gen and current-gen systems, Criterion needed to focus its efforts. That left little room for Wii U and Vita, leaving both consoles still without a Frostbite 3 game.

"The 200 people working on this game are only capable of making so much, and doing so many different versions of the game, so we had to go with where we think the biggest audience will be for the game, and that’s where we are."

Anyone who wanted to play it by then had played it, and was underwhelmed by how much it sucked compared to the original Most Wanted, which is my favorite NFS game to date. Criterion has added things to the franchise, but I would rather see another Burnout then trying to shoehorn in elements to NFS and making it a mess.
