Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain announced with trailer

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. That tells you most of what you need to know right there--the next in Hideo Kojima's cinematic stealth action series will be a combination of what we've seen of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.

A GDC panel on the tech behind the game--Kojima Productions' vaunted Fox Engine--kicked off with the news, along with a new trailer said to be running live from a PC build. It looks like Snake has spent nine years in a coma before the game begins, significantly weakening him.

His hospitalization ends with the linear scenes depicted in the Phantom Pain trailer, eventually transitioning to the open-world scenarios promised in Ground Zeroes.

Ssssoooooo... Can we have our REAL Silent Hill HD Collection now??... Like, with the REAL graphics and sounds, and with the REAL voice acting and with SH 1 and The Room?... Right? This is still some kind of ruse from Konomi... Right? :r

Wait, Wait, Wait. So which title comes first in sequence? Does ground zeroes come first the Phantom pain, or vice versa?

As far as I've heard, the Phantom Pain segment is just a 'tutorial'.

I believe Ground Zeroes is a prologue to The Phantom Pain. Still 2 games.

Wait, I'm confused. So, what I get from this is that Ground Zeroes & Phantom Pain are one in the same. But, are you playing as Big Boss or a younger Solid Snake? Help me out here, guys.

I think it's all Big Boss. Solid Snake's story is pretty much done. Kojima tweeted something about how Ground Zeroes is like the prologue and then it leads into The Phantom Pain, so I figure it's Big Boss all around. Pretty much like The Tanker Incident leading into the Big Shell Incident in MGS 2. I think that's what's going on here.

To me it looks like you will be playing as Big Boss, the guy on the operating table next to the main character looks a lot like kaz. He was an important member of your crew in peacewalker, another thing is those platforms in the sea, those are also from peacewalker. Peacewalker starred Big Boss and was set a couple of years after MGS 3, and they said he had been in a coma after that for a couple of years, so age wise I think it is a pretty good fit. Don't know if you have played Peacewalker but if you haven't it is a great game, one of the best in the series if you ask me.

You are playing as Big Boss in this game. The guy on the second operating table is definitely Miller (or "Kaz" as he was called in Peace Walker). The platforms being blown up are Mother Base, also known as the home turf for the MSF (Militaires Sans Frontieres), which was created by Big Boss himself (once again, in Peace Walker). So far it's hard to tell which comes first story-wise: Ground Zeroes or Phantom Pain, but it seems like Snake is a lot older in the Ground Zeroes demo (gray hair), while the Phantom Pain Snake still has brown hair. I'd say that the order would be: attack on Mother Base, The Phantom Pain, and then Ground Zeroes. But I could be wrong. Only time will tell

every yes I can muster. Not surprised, but I'm glad it's actually a thing.
