Joel Schumacher to remake Breaking News

Currently trying to clamber out of yet another career chasm following The Number 23’s lacklustre box office, Joel Schumacher is throwing himself into work. He’s busy finishing off horror flick Town Creek and now he’s just leaped aboard Breaking News.

It’s a remake of a Hong Kong action epic that Paramount Vantage will handle, the story finds a police battalion embarrassingly defeated by a team of five bank robbers, all while live on news cameras. A detective on a different investigation discovers the thieves’ hideout and his chief decides to get his own back on the media by turning the police stakeout into a news show. Yeah, we’ll a little confused too, but if you’d seen the 2004 original, you might have a better idea.

There’s no word on casting or a start date yet.
