Gears of War 3 confirmed for September 20

It's about five months later than Microsoft originally promised, but Gears of War 3 has now been given an exact release date. The action-packed shooting sequel will nowrelease on September 20 around the world.

In addition to confirming a specific target date, Microsoft also revealed names of some of the multiplayer maps and weapons set to ship with the game:

Maps:
Trenches
Overpass
Mercy
Checkout
Thrashball

Weapons:
Bayonet Charge
Retro Lancer
Sawed-off Shotgun
OneShot
Incendiary Grenade
Digger Launcher

Gears 3 was originally slated for release in April. That's what Microsoft said a year ago, but as we all know, stuff happens. We've pretty much learned to question any sort of release announcement made that far in advance.

If you happen to live somewhere other than the US, this is somewhat good news. The new Gears title should have hitNorth America first, and then other regions later in the year. Instead of releasing in the US in April and everywhere else in the fourth quarter, it's just going to come out in all major regions at the same time. Equality!

September is the unofficial start of the crowded holiday season, and it's also a month Microsoft has claimed for the past three Halo games, so Gears landing here makes sense. This year, asGameSpotpoints out,Gears3comes just one week after id's anticipated shooterRage.

Do you have enough room for two gore-heavy multiplayershooters in September? Or does one severely outweigh the other for you?
