G4 not becoming Esquire Network, after all

G4 has received a stay of transformation. The gamer-centric channel was set to become the Esquire Network, but now the Style Network will be reworked into the men's magazine channel.

The decision was made to capitalize on Style Network's greater distribution in U.S. homes and its demographic overlap with other NBCUniversal channels, according to The Hollywood Reporter. G4 is expected to remain as-is for the time being and Esquire Network will launch on Sept. 23, both under the care of general manager Adam Stotsky.

X-Play and Attack of the Show, two of G4's cornerstone programs, were both canceled by the end of 2012, supposedly in advance of the upcoming re-branding. The network's long-term fate is uncertain, though Ninja Warrior and COPS will probably stick around.

Haven't be to G4 since they canceled the shows I watched. Now they don't go ahead with their plans. That just sucks. Whoever owns this network should be shot.

Who the hell watches live TV nowadays?

So, they got rid of all their tech programming for SpikeTV2, and now they're not going ahead with it? Granted, that's good, but now my favorite shows have been canceled for no reason!

This is awesome! Please be true! A Gaming and tech centric channel can easily be in the top 50 or 25 channels. Look at some of the most subscribed YouTube channels all gaming centric. If it is done right a channel like G4 will easily Succeed.

Won't happen G4 died a long time ago and will never comeback. Not with the current mentality of whoever decides the programing and hosts like Blair Herter. Back in the day it was cool, but its better off dead and just look to youtube for your gaming fix and sites like GR.

I really miss TechTV to bad G4 had to come along and ruin it.
  • CrashmanX - September 10, 2013 2:12 p.m.

Quite. I remember back when it was just ZD TV. Man TechTV had the cool shit. Robot Wars, Screen Savers, and more. I honestly think that if G4 looked back at what the channel used to be then they could make it even better than it is now.

I know right! Leo Leporte and The Gnome was the best tv tech people to watch w/o having to deal with youcraps crappy streaming.

Always loved Judgement Day. Such a great duo Victor and Tommy made.

Honestly, I think if they were to start broadcasting E-Sports and made actual television for gamers (again) it could possibly make a comeback. I miss Arena :[
  • CrashmanX - September 10, 2013 2:11 p.m.

Dude Arena was cool as hell. If G4 were to live stream E-Sports tournaments (I.E. League of Legends, CS:GO, or SC2) then I think that would honestly help them. Bring back shows like Arena and Icons and they'd be good.
  • matthew-wyers - September 10, 2013 4:45 p.m.

I don't think I ever watched those shows but I know that no one and I mean no one who works for that network is thinking about Technology. If they where to bring back the TechTv/G4 type shows they would be all recasted and wouldn't be good or would take a few years before people like their characters due to douchebags who own the network. Simply put its as if the people who canceled Firefly are in charge of the network. F Them. Kill the network and let something else completely nerdying arise from the ashes.

Its not like I've even ever watched G4. Its not in normal cable (if I even had cable anymore) and they dont put their shows on Hulu or anything I would see them on to care
  • BladedFalcon - September 10, 2013 12:42 p.m.

G4 stopped being relevant to anything regarding games so long ago that I wonder if this even fit as news for this site anymore.
  • RODTheMaster - September 10, 2013 12:34 p.m.

Shout out to Cinematech. When's that coming back?
  • CrashmanX - September 10, 2013 2:10 p.m.

I know right? That had some of the COOLEST shit I've ever seen. It makes me sad we'll never see a show like that again.

G4 is dead they could kill it tomorrow and no one would miss it
