G4 has received a stay of transformation. The gamer-centric channel was set to become the Esquire Network, but now the Style Network will be reworked into the men's magazine channel.
The decision was made to capitalize on Style Network's greater distribution in U.S. homes and its demographic overlap with other NBCUniversal channels, according to The Hollywood Reporter. G4 is expected to remain as-is for the time being and Esquire Network will launch on Sept. 23, both under the care of general manager Adam Stotsky.
X-Play and Attack of the Show, two of G4's cornerstone programs, were both canceled by the end of 2012, supposedly in advance of the upcoming re-branding. The network's long-term fate is uncertain, though Ninja Warrior and COPS will probably stick around.
