'Find Makarov' teaser leads to fan-made Modern Warfare movie trailer

Information is valuable, but like money, it can be counterfeited - a countdown site at www.findmakarov.com got a bunch of press last week when it was initially presumed to be an official Activision teaser for Modern Warfare 3.

We, and the rest of the internet, got all typey about the big news until Activision denied any involvement, and we later discovered that a fan project of some description was behind it. Well, the countdown is now over, and we had to find out what was so important that we needed to be fooled. The site now redirects to a YouTube video called 'Find Makarov - Live Action Modern Warfare Trailer.' It's a fan-made film trailer that's not just based on Modern Warfare - it's a recreation of the games entirely from a first-person view. Check it out:

We'd be pissed about the trickery that had us retracting speculation last week, but damn, this was a ridiculous amount of work. The trailer was posted by We Can Pretend, a "creative collective based in Toronto, Canada." The group's intention is presumably self-promotion.

There may be a type or two...

This actually seems to me to be more similar to "Worlds Finest": an awesome batman and superman fan-film that is just buckets of wow. That and this are both not so much fan-film's as they are show-cases of the quality of their work in as directors as a sort of showcase to the Film Industry. But really, Google Worlds Finest right now, its just so...WOW. (it really is worth an all caps comment)

I dont' get it. With all the spectacular call of duty live action trailers and shit. Why don't Activision make a FUCKING movie already. The story of BLack ops was srs movie-grade shit, i'm sure they can make an even better movie with a story connecting black ops and modern warfare.

WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS A FUCKING PROBLEM WITH PRICES ACCENT? Seriously, am I the only English person here? It's all wrong!

Sorry to say this but i found one humongous flaw in the video. It kinda ruined it for me. Whenever you play any COD the character you play never speaks. Ever. But at end of the video MacTavish spoke when you were in first-person ! What?! ..just kidding lol. It was awesome. Gr8 job guys.

hope this becomes a full feature. This is absolutely brilliant. Made me want to go play the single player of MW 2 again.

:O . . . wow. Not much more can be said

The campaign is the only thing I like about the Call of Dutys, and this was amazing. I have no idea how they could do this, but fantastic job.

That was exceedingly well made. Shame it will probably never amount to more than a trailer. I'd watch it if it did though.

An absolutely stunning job, they should definitely get something for it (like a cookie) :D

wow, who cares about the trailer, those were the cornyest britist accents ive ever heard :D
  • krejsy - March 2, 2011 9:10 p.m.

I guess this would be one of the first really good movies based on a game

Incredible. Always happy to see fan-made stuff that's executed at this level of proficiency.
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - March 2, 2011 8:30 p.m.

Some commenters should note that it's doubtful that this 'trailer' is actually a trailer for anything more - it's a publicity stunt by marketers/enthusiasts. But still cool.

i pray modern warfare 3 is soap and price in russia hunting makorov, instead of a prequel about ghost just so they can stretch it to modern warfare 4.

This is incredibly well done, another great from Canada.

    Impressive, to say the least.

Unbelievable! So many recognisable scenes from the game. And pretty good likeness to many of the games central characters. I really don't mind that it was not a MW3 reveal after those two and half minutes of awesome.
  • tifanity - March 2, 2011 7:17 p.m.

I am almost left speechless after watching this. It is too well done and it just makes me sad that we won't get something like this until a few years to come since the next Modern Warfare is a freaking prequel -_-
  • HitmanSB07 - March 2, 2011 7:07 p.m.

I was hugely dissapointed that it wasn't MW3 related, I tend to hate shit like this, especially if it's based on an fps...Doom had a high budget and was still shit awful, I can imagine what this is going to be like.
