Final Fantasy XIII-2: Shut up and look at these amazing screenshots

Merriam-Webster defines a ‘paradigm’ as an outstandingly clear or typical example or archetype. A ‘paradigm shift’ refers to a change in assumptions as detailed in American physicist and philosopher Thomas Kuhn’s The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. But c’mon! You know what a paradigm shift really is. It’s what you do when it’s time to switch from Commando to Ravager!

Speaking of paradigm shifts, we have some gorgeous new screens for Final Fantasy XIII-2.  While it’s disappointing that we only get to see Noel and Serah shifting their paradigms in battle, they still look great.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is scheduled to release in Japan in December 2011 with a North American release set for early 2012. In the meantime, check out our E3 2011 preview to find out more about the upcoming sequel to FFXIII.

Snow had a car accident. If you look at him in FXIII-2 trailer, you'll know what I mean.

Hey Tyler, will i only have to play 10 hours before it actually gets good. Im jus saying.
  • quincytheodore - July 15, 2011 8:55 a.m.

I see "....." it registered as "Hey, I got some chores for you, over here!" or perhaps not.. they're just some lines, but I rather have them. XIII was so epically lonely.
  • BazyLastard - July 15, 2011 12:46 a.m.

FF 14 had some impressive screen shots too as I recall.

@Yaro They'd better have Fang in this. She was part of my dream team in XIII. @Shanetexas I don't know that I'd call it cliched so much as borderline incomprehensible. You practically had to learn a new vocabulary just to follow what was going on, with Gran Pulse, Cocoon, L'Cie, Fal'Cie (and the totally different, but totally same Pulse Fal'cie), Focuses and a bunch of other terms being thrown around every other sentence. It didn't help that most of the story was told, not in the actual game, but in the menus. Overall, I'm looking forward to this game quite a bit. There's quite a few things that I didn't like about XIII, but this one looks to fix a lot of those gripes.

They're making a sequel for one of the worst games of all time? Haven't they learned their lesson from FF X-2, the sequel to another one of the worst games of all time?
  • codystovall - July 14, 2011 7:54 p.m.

    Beautiful yet shallow....
  • jackthemenace - July 14, 2011 7:22 p.m.

Shut up about FFXII-2 DX< All I want is Versus XIII to be done with So I can have my GODDAMN KINGDOM HEARTS 3! Oh, and I LIKED Hope. Stuff you all.
  • andrewgraham - July 14, 2011 6:53 p.m.

FF is boring now the environment is awful they need to go back to the fantasy worlds rather than just futuristic and stop with the awful battle system just go back to plain and simple turn based battles.
  • TheDigitalG - July 14, 2011 6:49 p.m.

@bladex206 doesn't understand that if something can't be done in real life it's fantasy. When a city floats and people cast magic, call me.
  • ichigoame - July 14, 2011 6:32 p.m.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is scheduled to release in Japan in December 2012 with a North American release set for early 2012 don't you mean december 2011 for Japan?
  • Sleuth - July 14, 2011 6:29 p.m.

    Almost threw up.
  • Oujisama - July 14, 2011 5:53 p.m.

@Bladex206 There's NOTHING realistic about this game's setting, you're under the idiotic impression that fantasy means medieval european settings with knights and dragons.
  • Clovin64 - July 14, 2011 5:46 p.m.

I would have liked to have seen more lightning gameplay footage, but whatever. Still no Sazh? I'll just shut up now. Anyone notice that Snow's stupid little buddies havent aged a day, (or changed their clothes) despite XIII-2 allegedly being set 3 years after XIII? Just a thought.
  • Dondada - July 14, 2011 5:37 p.m.

Not on board for this one.
  • Ultimadrago - July 14, 2011 5:30 p.m.

    It's gonna suck. Calling it.
  • wonkotsane - July 14, 2011 5:15 p.m.

@claymore65, I couldn't agree more. I'm enjoying the heck out of XIII, but mostly because I only paid $15 for it. I probably wouldn't feel the same way if I had paid full price at launch.
  • Reaver_Beaver - July 14, 2011 5:10 p.m.

Woah woah woah, I love FF-13 and can't wait to it to come here, but are we actually getting it before Japan, and -that- much earlier?
  • ultimatepunchrod - July 14, 2011 5:08 p.m.

@db1331 i think they make sequels like this to FF games because it costs a lot of money to build this stuff from the ground up and then have to start over completely because unlike most games where things can be touched up and modified then released the next numbered FF game is the start of a whole new story, so they do X-2 or XIII-2 so they can reuse these characters and assets for fans and it saves money.

Ok question what happened to snow.
