Final Fantasy Type-0 gets Japanese release date

Square-Enix's Final Fantasy Type-0, previously announced as Final Fantasy Agito XIII, has had its Japanese release date announced as October 13. The online, non-MMO, originally slated for a summer release, had its development slowed by the PSN outage earlier this year, with Square-Enix asking players to “wait until the season of red leaves” for the title. The officially-announced release date brings with it a new trailer with music by Bump of Chicken, one of the biggest rock bands in Japan. You can see (and follow, if you speak Japanese) all five minutes of the clip below:

Final Fantasy Type-0, one of the few PSP titles to span two UMDs, is said to contain somewhere between 30-40 hours' playtime. The game's priced at 7,700 yen (around $99) and while an English-language release still hasn't been mentioned, director Hajime Tabata has said the game is intended to appeal to a Western audience as well as those who'll be playing in October. The game follows students of the Peristerium School of Magic, who become caught up in a global conflict and – let's go out on a limb here – take up outsized weapons and elemental summon-magic in a tale of good, evil and perplexing sidequests. Are you eager for a US release?

I wonder what their plans are with the Vita on the horizon of this game's release date. Maybe an upgraded re-release for Vita? Either way even as a big FF fan I'm not very excited about this game, now Versus 13 on the other hand...

If this came to America, it would fail so fucking hard. And they should have used Nil. BoC sucks.

Thats entirely opinions i think final fantasy type-0 will be amazing
  • PimplesInYourAsstista - July 21, 2011 12:36 p.m. sounds like every other JRPG, but more expensive? Great job Squenix. @Cyberninja FF-XIV called, it wants its naive fanboys back.
  • ranzatsu - July 21, 2011 11:04 a.m. probably the only FF title I don't really care about. Maybe I'll change my mind IF I buy it. Maybe. Then again, I still want Versus XIII. SE's been giving us rich promises and then they delay it till late or mid next year. I hope to God they know what they're doing. And maybe they'll do this thing again: mouths speaking in Japanese and voices in English. They did it with Crisis Core, they couldn't do it to Dissidia or The 3rd Birthday. *sigh*

can't wait for this one, i guess fans have been waiting on this for quite some time so a US release would be nice... as for the price, it's pretty steep but hopefully worth it... besides, it's a 2 UMD game... oh, and even if i only have a PSP and not GO, for the sake of those who do, will there be a downloadable version of this?

I'll just be glad they finally finished this...After watching this, I kinda wanna play Crisis Core

I just bought a PSP so that I'd have something to play during the summer dry season. Since I haven't had a PSP since Crisis Core came out, I've got quite the back catalog of games to play. Right now, I'm playing Kingdom Hearts BBS and Dissidia 2 (I'm not calling it by its real name). Having a blast with both of them, so I'm psyched to know another solid Square Enix game for the system is coming down the road. I don't know what it is about Squenix, but they really know how to get the most out of the PSP.

It's not gonna cost that much over here. Please listen to Cyberninja...

The last real game I played on PSP was in 2008 (!), which was Crisis Core. This looks pretty good. So many characters! And the battle mechanic actually looks like Crisis Core too. I'll def keep this on my games radar. As for the price, $90 does seem pretty steep. But think of it this way: if you put just $10 away per month from now until it comes out in NA, you'll probably have more than enough to get it. It's all about wise budgeting ;)

As much as I love FFXIII and the series as a whole, $99 is far too expense for one game.

Fatdog in japan they charge as much as they want for a game if they think it will sell like this also its square-enix making the game not crapcom they wont screw over their fans so i am sure this will get an american release.

Holy expensive game, Batman! $99 seems a little steep.
