E3 MVG 2011 Selection: Mass Effect 3 interview

We knew this one would get MVG appreciation way before E3 started, but that doesn’t mean we take the responsibility of a Mass Effect 3 interview lightly. We grilled the game’s Director of Marketing in hopes of getting any new details out of him. Did he crack? Watch and find out.

I disliked everything about mass effect 2 that wasn't the story. the combat felt generic and bland, not to mention that they made powers completely useless, but the thing that really kicked me in the nuts was the fact that they removed the inventory system. without that, you were forced to chose between only a handful of guns with no customization. luckily, Mass Effect 3 seems to have grasped what was bland about the combat and fixed some of it, so I'm sold.

Great interview Carolyn, this game is going to be epic!

I certainly enjoyed the Star Wars music in the background halfway through =P I cannot wait for Mass Effect 3. It certainly seems to be a fitting climax for the trilogy based on the scale of the conflict.

I wonder if Ashley will take me back, I totally hooked up with Miranda while she was away... Nice interview, can't wait for this!

Defintley my most anticipated game just have to replay 2 and make sure Mordin survies this time so i can have him in 3.

That Omni-Blade attack look sexy as hell, but even sexier... GARRUS! I knew he'd be in ME3, but its still awesome to see him as a squadmate in the gameplay footage. Saw Mordin in there too. Now I just need to see Tali back and I'll be happy as can be.

@db1331: have you seen the gameplay demos? At first glance, I thought the same, but then Shepard was at a work bench a la KOTOR. In fact, it worked just like it. You had different parts that went in different places, that then changed the weapon. And the leveling system is vastly more RPGish now too. Instead of just trees that branch at the end, each thing has like 8 options. For example, the solder's "combat mastery" class now has 9 options. You can improve persuasion, damage, power duration, or mix lesser improvements of any two of those three (so more persuasive and do more damage) That's the exact opposite of ME2's "choose what bullet you want to shoot" and "pick from 2 guns, one that lets you hold the trigger and one that makes you pump"

@db1331 Uh, you do remember that there are multiple branching powers and weapon customization right?

Wow, this looks fantastic, great interview Caroline!

@KolbitosFruitJuice You can expect the RPG elements to be all but gone.
  • KolbitosFruitJuice - June 8, 2011 8:32 p.m.

Gah, we know the combat is going to be amazing, lets hear about how the RPG elements will be expanded like Christina Norman promised us!

It's nice that the DLC weapons seem to be in the game. I still do wonder if the Kinect voice command could work with a regular headset mic. It's always weird and cool that youse guys can do interviews in barely audible rooms.
