E3 2010: NeverDead trailer and screens are extra gruesome

Konami's upcoming action game takes its title seriously. The first trailer for NeverDead introduces you to an immortal who has survived decapitation and dismemberment through the ages. It looks like it'll be a Devil May Cry-ish action title with lots of shooting, dodging, and severed body parts.

NeverDead is coming out for the PS3 and 360. It's developed by Rebellion Developments, the studio who brought you the recent Aliens vs Predator game – and the project is spearheaded by Shinta Noriji, the lead designer for the Metal Gear Acid games.

Above: The first trailer for NeverDead looks really impressive. We already like the main character, Bryce

Neither character, nor the monsters, seem to appealing at all. Bryce and his companion are just dripping with House of the Dead-esque bad dialogue. I didn't think it was too funny, either. It seems like (and I know, another DMC reference) they based the "witty" dialogue too heavily after Dante in DMC, but it just comes off all wrong. The gameplay looked like a lot of fun at first, but now it really does seem like a second-rate Max Payne-with-monsters type of thing. I must say, the female companion is one of the hottest game babes to date, though.

I just got a hint of Highlander here... Just the Immortal and decapitation parts..

It is a neat premise but I find the potrayal to be a bit campy. None the less, I'm sure to check this one out.

How are the severed limbs going to work? Are they controlled by AI or by the player?

No comparisons to Mr. Bones? Tsk tsk. But really, the way his head popped off made him look like a Lego man. Pretty goofy.

Looks pretty meh. Kinda tired of the end of the world in New York setting too. Then again I am just judging a book by its cover.

Death never really matters in games like this anyway, you just reload from the last check point and move on like nothing happened. Thats how I see it anyway.

if you look closely at the girl, you can see her bra. yes, out of the whole trailer that's what i noticed. looks stupid. the concept is interesting but the gameplay looks like your standard shooter.

One problem I see. If you can't die, then how will the gameplay itself function?

Looks more like Max Payne than Devil May Cry to me. Hopefully it's better than the last AvP game Rebellion made.

Wow. Whether the game is fun or not, that was a pretty funny trailer. Very creative concept as well. I wonder how they'll handle death in the actual game though...can you possibly die permanently? Or will it be like Fable 2's "lose some xp/valuable things but get right back up". Also, have you seen my arm around here?
