Duke Nukem Forever DLC arrives next week, new modes and silly hats promised

Duke Nukem Forever can’t be stopped. After surviving a critical reception at launch, the game is about to receive its first DLC on October 11 in the form of the Hail to the Icons Parody Pack. Pulling no punches, the pack pokes fun at more popular and respected FPS series – and will feature three new game modes, four new multiplayer maps, more weapons, and silly hats.

Foe-shattering Freeze Tag, babe-hoarding Hot Potato and free-for-all Hail to the King, round out the pack’s new modes. The four new multiplayer maps will also be packed with graphics and snark.

Call of Duke features “modern combat” in an urban warzone, while Inferno returns to Duke's long-beloved pastime: making fun of Doom via 16-bit graphics. Meanwhile, 2Forts1Bridge gives Team Fortress 2 a sarcastic tip of the silly hat. The last and smallest new map will be Sandpit, where many mini-Dukes will fight the good fight with Sticky Bombs.

Hail to the Icons launches on Oct 11. It's a free download for First Access Club members who pre-registered before the game's launch; all others can pay $10 or 800 MSP to give Duke another chance to prove himself.

Please no more updates about this game. It hurts my brain to think about this garbage.

I don't know why. That game is great. People just delusionaly expected something else for some retarded reason. It was a fun break from serious realistic shooters.

Or you could give Bulletstorm a try. It did get a 10 after all... If terrible graphics and painful load times and limited weapon inventory are your idea of fun then enjoy.

    Honestly. Nobody cares.

I actually really liked Duke's unique graphics. Of course the player models and the skyline of the city weren't that good but the guns and Duke looked good. Of course it is not Battlefield 3 or games similar but it was still a decent game but doesn't deserve all of the criticism it gets from others. (Not saying Gamesradar)

"Unique Graphics" That's an interesting way to put it.

Like I said, it was exactly what it was supposed to be. No sh** the graphics weren't amazing, that's not what they were going for. The loading weren't that bad if you get some patience and just have fun. The weapons selection was a little small, but look at the Crysis games and they are praised constantly (rightfully so). Look at the fun side of the game and enjoy life instead of picking out negatives. It was fun to mess around instead of being serious the whole time. It was over the top, but in the greatest way. The cheesy one liners and little bits were funny and enjoyable. It was the first game I played in a while that had actual good boss battles, but not great. I enjoyed the not so serious side of it. Bulletstorm was fun, but annoying. I hated having to try to get those skill shots constantly every kill without missing things with guns I didn't love and trying to get skill shot of skill shot after skill shot after...you get the point, or get left behind because you weren't earning enough experience. It's fun, but got old way too fast.

WTF? That was supposed to be a reply to Redeater.

Don't worry if I'm coming off super negative about DNF. I'm honestly not trying to belittle anyone that did actually enjoy the game. The problem for me was that I had loved 3D to death and had been waiting for DNF.......well....forever. I'm just still in a state of shock because it was so underwhelming to me.

I'll agree that it had more potential and not liking it is okay. It wasn't that great of a game, but no where near as bad as it been made out to be. The 14 year wait was sort of a build-up to something better, which definitely didn't help it. I just get sick of hearing it being such an awful game that was a disgrace to the gaming world. It was good for a couple of playthroughs and a pretty easy Platinum Trophy. I never even tried the online, and never will.
