Just as the discussion of falsely weep-heavy video game advertising was dissipating, one of the most infamous proponents of inverse trailer/game pathos ratios has turned up to do it again. Dead Island sequel Deal Island Riptide has now spawned its inaugral chunk of computer-generated sob-fodder, and it can be found blubbing away to itself just below these very words.
It's the age-old story. Boy meets girl, boy takes girl on boating holiday, boy and girl both totally miss the huge black clouds of ominous narrative forshadowing and end up inexplicably crashing their boat into the middle of a street on Dead Island before initiating an explosive suicide pact. Whether it has the same impact of the first game's excellent debut trailer though, is open to debate. As is the question of whether or not it will be enough to drive the same level of hype that original promo did, following the first game's rampantly mixed reviews.
As for the game itself, more information should be incoming soon. Dead Island Riptide is set for a 2013 release.
