To navigate much easier through this guide, I added the search system, which
works just by following these simple steps:

- Highlight the "Section Code" of the section which you wish to go and copy it
  (CTRL+C).

- Press CTRL+F to bring up the search sub-menu.

- Paste the "Section Code" and press ENTER twice to be where you wanted to be.
  Just like magic!

My Section Codes were made as precise as possible, and I also prefer this
method instead of having you scroll 30 min through this guide looking for the
section you want to go.

Hello everybody and all those dear readers of mine, this is vinheim and I'm
here, presenting my Pokemon Platinum. I'm writing this because of two very
important things to me. 1st and most important] I'm writing a Pokemon Crystal
FAQ, along with a kickass friend and you might know him as well, he's no other
than the "MIGHTY" Kori Winstead, better known in GameFAQ's as Mighty Oracle. I
really don't think my part of the FAQ is going well, as I'm so inexperienced in
writing for a Pokemon game, and I want to "practice" with this FAQ, so the
Pokemon Crystal one is better than the ones that are already. And 2nd] I've
never written for a new game, so I wanted to give it a shot and see how things
go, how good the feedback is.

Being this game similar to Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (I have Pearl by the way), I
decided to write this FAQ on my first playthrough, and update as I progress. If
I get stuck on anything, I'll make sure to take a look at CAHowell's FAQ to
give you the most precise info you guys deserve.

There's also some things I want to address, so please read the following
paragraphs:

- My walkthrough is pretty dry to me. I'm writing this for free and because I
enjoyed this game. If you are looking for tons of eloquent ways for me to say
"go N and you'll find some Pokemon Trainers", you are going to be so
disappointed. This guide is way, way too big to begin with, and lofty
  language does not help.

- If you take a quick scan thru my guide, you won't find the explanations for
battling system, saving-loading, etc. Why, you ask? Well, because the game
manual and in-game tutorials do a perfect job explaining the everything.

- The spoilers are great issues in making guides. I am a player of the game,
just like you are. The first time I played through this game was completely
by myself. I didn't use any guides, therefore nothing was spoiled for me. All
the story's ups and downs that were supposed to surprise me had such effect.
And I really think it's not fair spoiling such story elements to you.

With all this said, let's start with the guide! Enjoy this guide and remember
that it is a spoiler-free, so you don't have to worry about important info of
the game being spoiled.

I always reply to all the mails I get, since feedback is the best reward of
all. Also, if you want to request to host this FAQ in your site, please ask
permission first, so I can always keep track of where my FAQ's are. The only
site that is allowed right now to host this FAQ is:

I also have MSN and AIM, but please, if you add me, do NOT start bombing me
with IM. If I have the time, I'll chat to you, since I'm always busy writing
FAQ's and making some research for my job and school, but please keep it
polite, 'k? Anyway, here they are:

MSN: xander_may_cry@hotmail.com

Ask politely and I'll add you. I don't have YIM, so start mailing me to make
one just so you can chat with me.

 Author notes:
  This is how it works:

- Pokémon: I'll be displaying the Pokemon that appear in this area divided in
Morning, Day and Night and I'll add whether you need to have a GBA Pokemon game
in Slot 2 of your DS or not, or if it's a Swarm Pokemon, which will be
explained later in the game.

- Trainers: I'll only write down the number of Pokemon Trainers that are
waiting to battle you in designated area.

- Item Checklist: All the items that you come across will be displayed here,
even the Berries, but not those sold in stores. Also notice that next to the
items you've obtained, it's the quantity of that item throughout the whole
area.

Read what's on the TV and afterwards, you'll finally have control. Move to
have your Rival appear out of nowhere. After he leaves, go downstairs, talk to
your mom (you do it automatically though) and exit your house. Once outside,
you D/P players might notice something different. Yes, there's snow in some
parts of Twinleaf Town.

Anyway, go to your Rival's house, the NW one and he'll bump into you. Now
enter his house, go to the second floor and talk to him. Afterwards, return
outside and go N to get to Route 201.

 - Pokemon: Starter [Chimchar, Piplup or Turtwig]

From where we start, talk to your Rival and after the scene, you'll finally be
able to pick your first Pokemon, so check the suitcase to pick it. The choice
is yours, so pick carefully. I won't tell you which one is the best depending
on the gyms. It's better pick the one you like and play with that one through
to the end. I picked Piplup, by the way.

After Rowan and Dawn/Lucas leave, tell your Rival you're ready to start a
Pokemon fight.

 ,---------------.-------.
| Battle: Rival <+> $300 |
^----------------^-------^---.-------.---.-------.
| Chimchar | Lv. 5 | M | Fire |

| Piplup | Lv. 5 | M | Water |
| - If you picked Chimchar | | | |
| Turtwig | Lv. 5 | M | Grass |
| - If you picked Piplup | | | |
`----------------------------^-------^---^-------^

There's nothing much to say here, but to keep attacking. If you chose Piplup,
your Rival will have Turtwig. This Pokemon likes to use Withdraw, which greatly
raises his defense. Simply attack while hopping for a Critical Hit, to make the
hardest battle in the game end fast.

-----------------------

After the fight, you'll be back in your house. During the scene, your mom will
give you 'Running Shoes' so you can finally run. Now exit Twinleaf.

As we approach the first grassy area of the route, Dawn/Lucas will be waiting
for you there and she'll teach you how to catch a Pokemon. She'll also give you
'5x Pokeball'. Sweet. There's a new Pokemon in this Route, Shinx. This Pokemon
is an Electric-type, so I recommend catching one and training it, as Electric-
type Pokemon are scarce if I remember correctly.

Proceed N to find your first Trainer. Fight him (he has a Lv.5 Starly) and
proceed E to encounter another Trainer. Fight her as well and go N to find the
last Trainer of the Route. Fight him and afterwards, go all the way W to find
'Potion' in middle of the grass. Now go N from here to reach Jubilife City.

As you enter, Dawn/Lucas will appear once again and she'll ask you to follow
her. During the scene, a new character appears (new to the D/P/Pt series I
mean). He's Looker, a member of the International Police. He'll give you 'Vs.
Recorder'. Wow, what a bizarre character. She'll show you the Trainers School
and tell you that your Rival is in there.

Anyway, we need to give your Rival the Parcel we got, so enter the school and
talk to the Trainers in the NE corner and battle them. So easy. Use the Pokemon
Center in between the battles if you need to. After defeating both of them,
talk to the male Trainer to receive 'Potion'. Now check the NW corner to find
'X Attack'. Now talk to your Rival and give him his Parcel. He'll give you a
'Town Map'. Nice. Exit the school now.

Now go N and a little scene will trigger with a man. You now need to find 3
clowns in city and talk to this dude again. Their locations are:

1] N of the Pokemon Center. Impossible to miss. In the question, say "YES".
2] NW of the Pokemon Center and N of the fountain. In the question, say "YES".
3] Go W from this last clown. Say "YES" in the question.

After getting all 3 coupons, return to the man who started this and give him
the coupons to get 'Poketch'. Nice ^_^. Now go where the you found the last
clown and go W to enter a building. In here, talk to the fisherman to receive
'Old Rod'. Go W and follow the docks to get 'X Accuracy'. Return to Jubilife
City buy any needed things from the store and proceed E to Route 203.

Nothing new in this Route, except for Abra. Catch one if you want and proceed.
Your Rival is waiting for you here, and that means... a battle!

^---------.------^.---.--^------------.
| Starly | Lv. 7 | M | Normal/Flying |
| Starter | Lv. 9 | M | ----- |
`---------^-------^---^---------------^

There's nothing scary about this fight. Starly only uses Growl and Quick
Attack, while the Starter will only use Tackle/Pound and the stat-lower move.
That's about it. It's almost the same fight as before, only that he has 1 new
Pokemon.

-----------------------

After the fight, go N through the grassy area, fight the Trainer next to this
grassy area and go W following the upper part of the route to find 'Pokeball'.
Jump over the ledge to the S and E up the stairs and fight the other Trainer.
Go E, fight another Trainer and E to fight yet another Trainer. After all those
Trainers are gone, go W following the upper path and grab 'X Defend'. Go N and
down the W stairs to find 'Repel'.

Return to the Pokemon Center if you need to and proceed inside the cave
entrance to the far E side of the route. Once here in Oreburgh Gate, the Hiker
there will give you 'HM06 Rock Smash'. Sweet, but we need the Oreburgh Badge to
use it outside battle. Simply proceed E, take care of both Trainers and exit
the cave.

There's not much to do here right now, since the Gym Leader, Roark, isn't
here. Go to the Pokemon Center first, like always. Heal up your Pokemon and you
may notice that the right stairs are finally clear. Down there is the Wi-Fi
center, where you can do lots of things online with people, only if you have
their Friend Code.

Go down there and you'll be greeted by the receptionist Teala. She'll give you
'Pal Pad' (at first, I thought it was Pay Pal... =.=;). Now exit the Pokemon
Center, go around it and enter the large building SE of the Pokemon Center (it
has blue and grey colors). Go up to the second floor and talk to the boy with
the blue hat sitting at the table to receive 'Great Ball'.

Behind the Gym is the Mart. Enter the large building (that looks like the one
you just entered) that's next to the Mart and the girl in here will trade you
her Machop for an Abra. Do so if you have a Machop (you can catch Machops in
Route 207, which is N of Oreburgh City). Now enter the building W of this one
(the one that's exactly the same).

Go up to the second floor and talk to the little girl on the left side of the
room to get 'Dusk Ball'. Now go to the S part of Oreburgh and check the W side
to find 'Yellow Shard' and 'Dire hit'. Now go to the SE corner and talk to the
man there to get a 'Super Potion'. Now simply enter the mine to the S.

o~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~o

There are 2 paths you're able to take. The long road (in which there are no
battles) and the quick road (where there are 2 Trainers before Roark). The
first Trainer has a Geodude and the second one has a Geodude and an Onix.

 ,--------------------------.--------.
| Battle: Gym Leader Roark <+> $2300 |
^----------.-------.---.----^--------|
| Geodude | Lv.12 | M | Rock/Ground |
| Onix | Lv.12 | M | Rock/Ground |
| Cranidos | Lv.14 | M | Rock |
^---------^-------^---^--------------^

Full of Rock/Ground Pokemon. If you picked Turtwig as your starter Pokemon,
then simply use Razor Leaf to breeze through this battle. They might even die
with one hit. Onix may take 2 or 3. Also, Piplup's Bubble is wonderful. If you
picked Chimchar, wait until you evolve him at level 14 so he evolves and learns
Mach Punch, which is a fighting-type move.

Geodude is no big deal at all. Almost any (or maybe all 3) attack will faint
it, so there's one down. Onix can be more of a problem, being that it has more
Defense and Special Defense than Geodude (by far). Cranidos is pure Rock, so
any attack that it's weak against is good. Cranidos is pretty fast, and
powerful too. He often uses Leer followed by Headbutt. If you're not careful,
this attack can kill you in one hit (it killed my Piplup in Lv.16 in one hit).

Bring some Revives and if your main Pokemon in fainted, Revive him as soon as
possible, fully heal him and continue to attack.

-----------------------

After the battle, Roark will give you 'Coal Badge' and 'TM76 Stealth Rock'.
Heal up at the Pokemon Center and if you wanna catch either a Ponyta or a
Machop, go N to Route 207 for them. Whether you go there or not, return to
Oreburgh Gate.

Follow the N path, clear it with Rock Smash and go down the stairs at the end.
Now break the rocks on the right side to find 'TM70 Flash'. Now break the rocks

Now exit Oreburgh Gate and on to Route 203. Proceed through Route 203 and when
you get to Jubilife City, a little scene with Looker will start. He'll tell you
that now that you have a Pad Pal, you should go to the GTS. Do so if you want
and proceed to trigger a scene with Rowan, Dawn/Lucas and some Mysterious Guys
(the ones Looker is looking for) and you'll enter a Dual Pokemon Battle with
Dawn/Lucas as your partner.

Dawn/Lucas uses her/his Initial Pokemon at Lv.13, while Team Galactic's Grunts
use a Stunky Lv.11 and Glameow Lv.11. There's nothing hard about these Pokemon.
Just use your normal attacks to take them down. Some dude from Jubilife TV will
approach after the battle and scene, giving you 'Fashion Case'.

have a blast talking to them on AIM, MSN and the FCBS. They all inspire me in
writing more and more FAQ's. Note that all these fellows are FAQ writers as
myself, so I thank them too for supporting me in my FAQing.

- Gabriel, Raul and Eduardo: Just for being my best friends and always being
there for me, in the good and bad moments.

- You: For having the patience of reading through the whole guide.

He who asks is a fool for five minutes,
but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
