I'm writing this because of two very important things to me. 1st and most important] I'm writing a Pokemon Crystal FAQ, along with a kickass friend and you might know him as well, he's no other than the "MIGHTY" Kori Winstead, better known in GameFAQ's as Mighty Oracle. I really don't think my part of the FAQ is going well, as I'm so inexperienced in writing for a Pokemon game, and I want to "practice" with this FAQ, so the Pokemon Crystal one is better than the ones that are already. And 2nd] I've never written for a new game, so I wanted to give it a shot and see how things go, how good the feedback is. Being this game similar to Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (I have Pearl by the way), I decided to write this FAQ on my first playthrough, and update as I progress. If I get stuck on anything, I'll make sure to take a look at CAHowell's FAQ to give you the most precise info you guys deserve. There's also some things I want to address, so please read the following paragraphs: - My walkthrough is pretty dry to me. I'm writing this for free and because I enjoyed this game. If you are looking for tons of eloquent ways for me to say "go N and you'll find some Pokemon Trainers", you are going to be so disappointed. This guide is way, way too big to begin with, and lofty language does not help. - If you take a quick scan thru my guide, you won't find the explanations for battling system, saving-loading, etc. Why, you ask? Well, because the game manual and in-game tutorials do a perfect job explaining the everything. - The spoilers are great issues in making guides. I am a player of the game, just like you are. The first time I played through this game was completely by myself. I didn't use any guides, therefore nothing was spoiled for me. All the story's ups and downs that were supposed to surprise me had such effect. And I really think it's not fair spoiling such story elements to you. With all this said, let's start with the guide! Enjoy this guide and remember that it is a spoiler-free, so you don't have to worry about important info of the game being spoiled. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ~-~ ~-~ ~-~ 1.1] Contact Rules ~-~ ~-~ ~-~ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-.sx101.-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= '-----' Any critics, suggestions, spelling mistakes, contributions are welcome, so please send them at the following e-mail: --> vinheim@gmail.com <-- I always reply to all the mails I get, since feedback is the best reward of all. Move to have your Rival appear out of nowhere. After he leaves, go downstairs, talk to your mom (you do it automatically though) and exit your house. Once outside, you D/P players might notice something different. Yes, there's snow in some parts of Twinleaf Town. Anyway, go to your Rival's house, the NW one and he'll bump into you. Now enter his house, go to the second floor and talk to him. Afterwards, return outside and go N to get to Route 201. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Area #02 - Route 201 sx403 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= - Pokemon: Starter [Chimchar, Piplup or Turtwig] - Trainers: 1 (Rival) o~~Item Checklist: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~o | Running Shoes -------------------------------------------------------- (KI) | o~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~o From where we start, talk to your Rival and after the scene, you'll finally be able to pick your first Pokemon, so check the suitcase to pick it. The choice is yours, so pick carefully. I won't tell you which one is the best depending on the gyms. It's better pick the one you like and play with that one through to the end. I picked Piplup, by the way. Once here, talk to your mom and get healed if needed and proceed all the way E to reach Sandgem Town. Before entering, talk to the lady directly W of the entrance (the one that's in the tall grass) and she'll give you 'Potion'. Sweet, just like all Pokemon games. After Dawn/Lucas shows you around town, use the Pokemon Center and before returning home, go S to Route 219 just to pick up a lone 'Antidote'. Now return to Twinleaf Town. Once here, go to your house and talk to your mom. You'll rest a little and a little scene triggers. You'll obtain 'Journal' and 'Parcel', which you need to take to your Rival. Now return to Sandgem Town and go N to reach Route 202. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ~-~ ~-~ ~-~ 5.2. She'll also give you '5x Pokeball'. Sweet. There's a new Pokemon in this Route, Shinx. This Pokemon is an Electric-type, so I recommend catching one and training it, as Electric- type Pokemon are scarce if I remember correctly. Proceed N to find your first Trainer. Fight him (he has a Lv.5 Starly) and proceed E to encounter another Trainer. Fight her as well and go N to find the last Trainer of the Route. Fight him and afterwards, go all the way W to find 'Potion' in middle of the grass. During the scene, a new character appears (new to the D/P/Pt series I mean). He's Looker, a member of the International Police. He'll give you 'Vs. Recorder'. Wow, what a bizarre character. She'll show you the Trainers School and tell you that your Rival is in there. Anyway, we need to give your Rival the Parcel we got, so enter the school and talk to the Trainers in the NE corner and battle them. So easy. Use the Pokemon Center in between the battles if you need to. After defeating both of them, talk to the male Trainer to receive 'Potion'. Now check the NW corner to find 'X Attack'. Now talk to your Rival and give him his Parcel. He'll give you a 'Town Map'. Nice. Exit the school now. Now go N and a little scene will trigger with a man. You now need to find 3 clowns in city and talk to this dude again. Their locations are: 1] N of the Pokemon Center. Impossible to miss. In the question, say "YES". 2] NW of the Pokemon Center and N of the fountain. In the question, say "YES". 3] Go W from this last clown. Say "YES" in the question. After getting all 3 coupons, return to the man who started this and give him the coupons to get 'Poketch'. Nice ^_^. Now go where the you found the last clown and go W to enter a building. In here, talk to the fisherman to receive 'Old Rod'. Go W and follow the docks to get 'X Accuracy'. It's almost the same fight as before, only that he has 1 new Pokemon. ----------------------- After the fight, go N through the grassy area, fight the Trainer next to this grassy area and go W following the upper part of the route to find 'Pokeball'. Jump over the ledge to the S and E up the stairs and fight the other Trainer. Go E, fight another Trainer and E to fight yet another Trainer. After all those Trainers are gone, go W following the upper path and grab 'X Defend'. Go N and down the W stairs to find 'Repel'. Go to the Pokemon Center first, like always. Heal up your Pokemon and you may notice that the right stairs are finally clear. Down there is the Wi-Fi center, where you can do lots of things online with people, only if you have their Friend Code. Go down there and you'll be greeted by the receptionist Teala. She'll give you 'Pal Pad' (at first, I thought it was Pay Pal... =.=;). Now exit the Pokemon Center, go around it and enter the large building SE of the Pokemon Center (it has blue and grey colors). Go up to the second floor and talk to the boy with the blue hat sitting at the table to receive 'Great Ball'. Behind the Gym is the Mart. Enter the large building (that looks like the one you just entered) that's next to the Mart and the girl in here will trade you her Machop for an Abra. Do so if you have a Machop (you can catch Machops in Route 207, which is N of Oreburgh City). Now enter the building W of this one (the one that's exactly the same). Go up to the second floor and talk to the little girl on the left side of the room to get 'Dusk Ball'. Now go to the S part of Oreburgh and check the W side to find 'Yellow Shard' and 'Dire hit'. The first Trainer has a Geodude and the second one has a Geodude and an Onix. ,--------------------------.--------. | Battle: Gym Leader Roark <+> $2300 | ^----------.-------.---.----^--------| | Geodude | Lv.12 | M | Rock/Ground | | Onix | Lv.12 | M | Rock/Ground | | Cranidos | Lv.14 | M | Rock | ^---------^-------^---^--------------^ Full of Rock/Ground Pokemon. If you picked Turtwig as your starter Pokemon, then simply use Razor Leaf to breeze through this battle. They might even die with one hit. Onix may take 2 or 3. Also, Piplup's Bubble is wonderful. If you picked Chimchar, wait until you evolve him at level 14 so he evolves and learns Mach Punch, which is a fighting-type move. Geodude is no big deal at all. Almost any (or maybe all 3) attack will faint it, so there's one down. Onix can be more of a problem, being that it has more Defense and Special Defense than Geodude (by far). Cranidos is pure Rock, so any attack that it's weak against is good. Cranidos is pretty fast, and powerful too. He often uses Leer followed by Headbutt. If you're not careful, this attack can kill you in one hit (it killed my Piplup in Lv.16 in one hit). Bring some Revives and if your main Pokemon in fainted, Revive him as soon as possible, fully heal him and continue to attack. ----------------------- After the battle, Roark will give you 'Coal Badge' and 'TM76 Stealth Rock'. Heal up at the Pokemon Center and if you wanna catch either a Ponyta or a Machop, go N to Route 207 for them. Shop at the Mart if needed and proceed E to Route 205. Go E, pick up some berries and then talk to the little girl. We need to go find her daddy, but we can't just yet. Instead, return to Florama Town and go NW to enter Florama Meadow. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Area #15 - Florama Meadow sx418 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= - Pokemon: = Florama Meadow: None = Valley Windworks: Morning = Buizel, Pachirisu, Shinx, Shellos, Drifloon Day = Buizel, Pachirisu, Shinx, Shellos, Drifloon Night = Buizel, Pachirisu, Shinx, Shellos, Drifloon **Drifloon**: Only appears on Fridays after completing Valley Windworks. - Trainers: 3 o~~Item Checklist: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~o | Works Key --------------------- (KI) = 10 --------------------------- Honey | | Potion ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 | o~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~o Speak to the two members of Team Galactic. In the next room, I recommend taking out the Grunt on the top, although you don't need to. Now go E, save your game before approaching the Red Haired person and now battle her. I won't write down a strategy, as it won't be needed. I'll only tell you that she has a Zubat Lv.15 (wow... =_=;) and a Purugly Lv.17. After the fight, watch the little scene between the Galactic Members. Afterwards, the little girl storms in the room and tells you something about the balloon Pokemon. Mmm... Come here on Fridays to meet Drifloon, which is a nice Pokemon. Now exit this place to have Looker appear out of nowhere and start talking to you. Now return to the fork in Route 205. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Area #17 - Route 205 sx420 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= - Pokemon: Morning = Buizel, Pachirisu, Shellos, Bidoof Day = Buizel, Pachirisu, Shellos, Bidoof Night = Buizel, Pachirisu, Shellos, Bidoof - Trainers: 7 o~~Item Checklist: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~o | X Sp. Now go N from her, fight Picnicker Siena and go directly W from her to find 'Heal Ball'. Also grab the berries nearby. Return up the stairs and go N to battle Camper Zack. Continue N and fight Hiker Nicholas. Past him, grab 'Repel' and fight Battle Girl Kelsey that is walking in circles. Past her is Picnicker Karina, which has a Piplup (just like mine... ^.^'). From here, go E, down the stairs and grab 'Super Potion'. Return up the stairs and enter the house. One difference of this version and P/D), someone named Cheryl will talk to you and she'll team up with you. She has a Lv.20 Chansey, so it's cool to have her around, also, she'll heal your Pokemon's HP and PP to full after each battle. Go directly W from the entrance and grab 'Antidote' from the grassy area. Return to the entrance and go NE from here to find your first pair of trainers, Bug Catcher Jack and Lass Briana. Take them out and go N a bit to find 'Parlyz Heal'. Keep following the path and you'll fight 2 Psychics now, Lindsey and Elijah. Take care of them and proceed S and check the S most corner to find 'Net Ball'. Proceed directly E from here to fight 2 Bug Catchers, Phillip and Donald. Now go E from here and when you get to the corner, check around to find 'Potion'. Return to the fork before the item and go N until you fight a pair of Psychics, Rachel and Kody. From the fork N of them, go E, then N and W all the way until you hit the wall. Grab 'Green Shard' from here and proceed E to get to the exit. Cheryl will thank you for going with her and she'll hand over 'Soothe Bell'. Now exit Eternia Forest and enter Route 205 once again. There are 2 paths you can take. The upper one is a grassy area, but has no Trainers. The lower one has 3 Trainers, but easy Pokemon, so the call is yours. After the bridge, go S and follow the dirt path to find 'Guard Spec.'. Grab some berries from the N side of the area. Now go E and enter Eterna City. /\ /\ /\ ~~( )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)(~~~~~~~~~~~~~( )~~ )( 5] Latest Update ( ) sx500 )( ~~( )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)(~~~~~~~~~~~~~( )~~ \/ \/ \/ = Version 0.12 (April 21st, 2009) - Completed the Walkthrough up to Eternia Forest (finished Eterna Forest and Route 205 N). /\ /\ /\ ~~( )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)(~~~~~~~~~~~~~( )~~ )( 6] Closing ( ) sx600 )( ~~( )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)(~~~~~~~~~~~~~( )~~ \/ \/ \/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ~-~ ~-~ ~-~ 6.1] Credits ~-~ ~-~ ~-~ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-.sx601.-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= '-----' 1.
