About This FAQ ========================================================= Lair is a game that, while it has been taking a beating in the reviews, gives a fairly unique experience when it comes to the control scheme. This game makes full use of the Sixaxis controllers motion sensing capabilities. I figured that since I was going to be playing this fairly short game for the weekend I might as well write a FAQ for it. If anyone has anything they would like to see in this FAQ, or any suggestions or comments please email me at misfit192000(at)yahoo.com and I will see what I can do. ********* Lair ********* The world of Lair is a mythocal place filled with a variety of different beasts of tremendous size, not the least of which are the dragons. These creatures are used as the mounts of the armies, used to fight epic battles in the sky over the land that has been split between the Mokai and Asylians. You are Rohn, an elite member of the Asylian Sky Guard. It is up to you to shape the face of the conflict between these two groups. ========================================================= 3. If you continue to press the button your dragon will continue to fire off smaller, weaker balls of fire at a rapid pace. If you want to shoot the big fireball more often you will need to lay off the attack button for a moment between fireballs. If you hold down the attack button you will shoot out a stream of flames. This isn't a very good attack unless you are attacking something that is in a fixed position, or moves slowly like a ship. Avoid using this while airborne unless you are strafing ground troops. Pressing the circle button will have little effect unless you have someone in your lock (soft or hard). Once you do this and press circle your dragon will launch itself forward and ram into the enemy, killing most basic dragons. While the dragon is dying you can move the camera around with the Sixaxis and if you get another dragon in your sights you can ram him too. A bigger chain of ram attacks gets you more Carnage. If you ram into a dragon too strong to take out automatically (Dark Dragons for example) then your dragon will hit it, do some damage and stay close. During this time you can press triangle to get into a dragon duel with the target. During a duel your buttons will have different meanings: R1/R2 will block, square will use your flame breath, X will do a claw attack, triangle will do a rake attack and circle will bite your enemies. A good way to proceed in these duels is to block and then return fire with whatever combo your dragon might have learned. Rarely you will get the option to press triangle and initiate an auto-takedown on a weakened enemy dragon. When this happens you will essentially take the enemy right out of the air, so use it when you can. Sometimes when you go to ram an enemy it will initiate Pursuit mode instead. In this mode you will fly side by side with the enemy dragon in a behind the back view of both of you. Move the controller up or down to change your vertical position and once you are level with the enemy jerk the controller in his direction to ram him. Two hits will usually be enough. If you get hit instead it will usually end pursuit mode. To make your job easier you will automatically acquire targets, this is called a soft lock and appears as a white aura around the target. You will change soft lock targets as you move around but you will target them with whatever attack you launch while they are highlighted. However should you press L1 or R1 while you have a soft lock, the aura will turn red and it will be a hard lock. During a hard lock your camera will turn automatically to follow wherever your target moves, allowing you to keep pummeling him with your dragon fire, or claws if you prefer to go that route. There will come a time when you are told to grab onto something, be it a Rhino or a Steam Generator. When told to do this move towards the target and initiate a hard lock. This will guide you right towards it, so move as fast as you can in that direction. Once you grab it you will have to move the entire controller up and down repeatedly to destroy the thing once and for all. Lastly, when there are ground based enemies and you are doing a fly-by overhead if you press the triangle button you will pick them up. This works on troops and Tauros amongst others and you can then fling them wherever you like (off of a ledge works to get rid of them quite nicely). ========================================================= 4. Enemies ========================================================= Enemy Troops - This is a catch all for a variety of troops you will face while on the ground. They are pretty much there to be slaughtered by the dozens by you and your dragon. Eat them to recover health and just have fun killing them. Enemy Ships - The enemy ships are actually easier to take out than almost any other enemy in the game. Two heavy fireballs will do the job for you and their flaming arrows do negligable damage. Ice Dragons - These guys are your fairly run of the mill enemies in this game. They spit out ice, in opposition to your fire. You can easily kill them with fireballs of your own or, if you're looking to fluff your Carnage score, you can kill them with a melee combo chain. You can get some serious Carnage from doing this effectively. Manta - These are enormous airborne enemies who are used as a beast of burden by the armies. They look incredibly fearsome but they will die with only two fireballs or so. Do NOT get caught on the ground while they are running about or they will flatten you in no time flat. Rhino - These big guys are immune to your fire attacks meaning that you will have to get in close with them. To defeat them you are going to have to tear off the rider, remove the armor and then fling them off of a high place. They are fairly time consuming so go after them as soon as you know they are on the level, otherwise you might have problems with them wiping out your troops. Tauros - Essentially these are some really big bulls. They're fairly impressive looking to be honest. They will charge at you, and enemy troops, but they will easily get taken down by your fire. Flame Dragon - These big guys are immune to your fire attacks. The best way to take them out is to go into close quarters combat or engage them in pursuit mode and knock them out of the sky with ram attacks. They will go down a bit easier than the Dark Dragons will. Dark Dragon - More than any other enemy these are some of the major enemy dragons you will have to contend with. They are immune to your fire, like the Flame Dragons and taking them out in melee is a bit trickier since they have more health. Remember to block liberally and then counterattack. Catapults/Ballistae/Trebuchets - All of these work differently but they have the same amount of impact on you. They can do some serious damage not only to you and your dragon but also to your enemy troops. Taking them out will net you some serious carnage though so use Rage if you have to. Cannons - These get their own category simply because of how dangerous they are to you. Not only will they destroy your allied ships but they can blow you to pieces if you aren't careful around them. Swarmers - These little bugs aren't that big of a threat (little by dragon standards anyways). Your best bet when dealing with these pains is to use the dragons flame breath to ignite the lot of them at once. Burners - This is where the game gets a bit tougher. They are fairly bit stronger than the Ice Dragons, however mixed in with the regular ones will be powerful ones that you have to melee to death. Follow the same strategy that you use on the ice dragons except be ready for surprises. Warbeast - More than just a really powerful beasts of burden, the Warbeasts will have offensive platforms strapped to their backs. You will have to destroy the platform with your ranged attacks before you can do anything else. Once you have done that move behind them and use Triangle to grapple their legs before you dash away, knocking the beast to the floor and getting rid of it. ========================================================= 5. Walkthrough ========================================================= - Always follow the arrows, they will tell you where you need to go. Remember one simple rule: yellow good, red bad. - Completing each chapter will net you a medal depending on how well you do. These will range from bronze to silver to gold and, best of all, platinum. - Carnage can be gained in larger numbers by making sure that you use combo attacks and the like to slaughter enemies more efficiently. If you do this well enough you should get the medals with little trouble. - Most of the boss enemies are a simple mattter to defeat. Once you learn the strategy to hurt them it never really changes. It becomes a matter of repeating it over and over until they die due to the fact that they are usually very predictable and have no real surprises in the fights. - When entering into fight mode with the enemies, make sure that you get used to blocking and then attacking. You can die really fast if you do not block the enemy attacks, so block and then counter attack however you like. Safety will win you more battles than recklessness in this game. ======================================= 1. Darklands Training ======================================= This level is nothing more than a tutorial. Just follow the directions that the game gives you and fly through the rings. Like I said, this is a tutorial level so just do what you're told and you will be done sooner rather than later. If you have problems seeing your targets make sure to use Rage Vision. You can come back and do practice modes with other forms of training as well but you only have to do it once to proceed with the game. ======================================= 2. Day of Terror ======================================= This level is pretty simple for the most part. Follow the yellow Mission Objective arrow and it will lead you towards the ships. Stay low to the water and use your flames to take them out. Focus on the ships that are attacking to make your life easier however you can destroy the other ships to acquire more carnage points. Don't worry about the water, you will coast along it instead of sinking so stay low to it. Start off by diving towards the ships with a heavy fireball attack and wait a second before tapping for another attack. It only takes two of the big fireballs to wipe them out. If you are worried that you will fly right past them then simply hold down the square button and roast it like that. You should get them easily enough. Now head back towards the city and use your rage vision to find which dragons are enemy dragons (they appear red) and start taking them out. Use either your fireballs or melee attack to get rid of them. When they come in groups, don't spend too much time focusing on individuals and start fireballing away. If you rapid press the fire button you will cut them out of the sky easily. Keep this up until a cutscene plays. You will need to enter pursuit mode with Atta-Kai now. Lock onto him and hit the circle button to get this started. What you need to do is to line it up so that you are on the same height level, done by moving the controller up and down accordingly. Once you are on the level that he is on move your whole controller in his direction. You will ram into him if you do this properly. You only need to do this twice or so to end the mission. ======================================= 3. Blood River ======================================= To start with all you need to do is head towards the signal beacon. A cutscene will trigger and you will be prompted to wipe out the nearby troops. Land on the ground near them and use the fire stream attack to take them out much faster than trying to melee them all. While they do negligable damage don't just sit around, keep on moving and blasting them with fire which they will try to stay away from. This will break them up and give you a chance to eat some of them to restore your health. Once you are done there you will need to take out some catapults, ice dragons and yet more ground troops as you make your way towards the bridge. Kill all of the dragons in the area as quickly as possible because if all four barges are destroyed, you lose the mission. It is easy for this to happen if you don't move fast enough so don't dawdle. If you find yourself having problems with taking out the catapults and dragons, stay right above the barges and don't go flying off. Hover near them and keep it slow and you should do this without any real problem. You will get a new mission once his is done, you have to take out the four trebuchets attacking the wall. Fly towards them, ignoring everything else and blow them up with fire. A hard lock is well worth using here. Once they are no longer a threat, land and start wiping out the troops that are on the ground. You have to keep doing this until the enemy morale breaks. Once that is done the mission will end. ======================================= 4. Demon Pass ======================================= Fly as directed by the objective arrow, doing your best to avoid the spotlights as you go. You will need to shoot the "eyes" while avoiding the spotlights, so you may want to hover and shoot, it can be tricky to do this while moving. Once you take out some of the spotlights some dragons will come out to attack you. Beat them down as quickly as you can (I prefer to ram and then fireball them as often as I can) and then fly into the mouth that they came out of. Once you are inside you will see a weight. Target it and grab hold of it, the game will tell you when, and jerk the controller controller up and down until it releases the weight. Now you will need to repeat this from step A with the next "face" of the fortress. Dragons will come out to attack you with this one, so beat them off and then destroy the weight. Once you have finished removing the weights from the fortress you will be able to go after the warships in the water below since the fog has lifted. So fly on down and start taking them apart. You will have to destroy around seven ships or so and then you will be instructed to get to the last weight. Quickly fly that way and tear the weight off its moorings. ======================================= 5. Crossing at Dawn ======================================= This mission sucks. You need to move fast and take out the enemy before they wipe out your people. Soft lock ons are key here, as are quick decisive moves on your part. Follow the target arrow and bring the guardians where they need to go. Once you have finished with that, start going after the dragons that are attacking your troops (use Rage vision if needed). It is imperative that you kill them quickly and move from one to the other quickly here. Now start flying further and you will see some enemy troops, take them out. You will be interrupted by the arrival of more enemy dragons so go after them. Use your fire attacks to make this easier on yourself but it shouldn't be too hard (remember speed is more important than anything else here). A group of Tauros will come out after you deal with the dragons so fly down to them, pick them up and drop them to get rid of them. As soon as they are gotten rid of a group of Dark Dragons will start to attack the bridge. You only have two choices when it comes to fighting them; ram them or enter fight mode. I prefer sticking to repeated ram attacks since it seems to be the faster way of going about this but your mileage may vary. Next will be the Rhino enemies, these are immune to your flames too. This means you will have to lock onto them and beat them to death with your dragons natural weapons. Once the last of them is dead the mission will end. ======================================= 6. Serpent Strait ======================================= Not as bad as the last mission but speed is still essential here. You must keep the Mantas safe, so as soon s the dragons start to attack begin using lock-on fire attacks. However do not hit the Manta's, you can damage them. So long as even one manta lives you will complete this objective, in a pinch this means that you can protect one or two very closely and let the others go. This isn't ideal though so use Rage Vision to single out the enemies and take them down. You will have to go after the Coral Snake at this point. Start going after his scales by flying in close and use your fire attacks to damage his scales. After enough of this he will rear up out of the water and try to spit bones at you. Spit fire at his head and dodge his attack by moving the controller either left or right as appropriate. He will end up stunned, this is the perfect time to go ahead and ram him. Once you do so he will try to bite you so follow the prompts on-screen and you will attack his eye. That is really all there is to fight. Simply keep up this pattern and he will go down, there are no real surprises in this fight. If you happen to let him push you away with his roar it is imperative that you close in as quickly as you can or he will eat one of the Mantas. ======================================= 7. Ravine of No Return ======================================= You need to avoid the spotlights here or you are basically dead. I was able to escape the ensuing damage a few times but don't rely on it. Evasion is your best friend here. Move along the power cables and reach one of their ends, when you do so shoot it to disable some of the spotlights. This is necessary as it will make it easier for you to survive. Stay low, keep moving slow and watch out for the spotlights. I prefer to stay low to the ground here where possible but you may need to go upwards to continue at times. Eventually you will reach the three Steam Generators. While here you will need to take out two of the power cables that look like a bridge suspension. After you destroy the first generator some dragons will charge you, so you will have to kill them all or at least thin them out before you try to take out the generator. After you destroy the second one more enemies will come so make sure to clear them out again. Once you have cleared out most of the enemies, and power cables, go after the generators by locking on, grabbing them and shaking them apart. This ends the mission. ======================================= 8. Firestorm ======================================= You will have to protect the Manta Bombers now. Move as fast as possible in the direction of the arrow (lunging helps) and take out the three cannons. You will need to destroy the energy generators in the fortress that they are on. This leads to a cutscene. Now move to the top of one of the Manta and pick up a pack of five bombs by locking onto one of the bombs. Make your way to the city and drop the bombs onto buildings below. If you are having problems properly getting your bombs where you want them, hovering will help with your aim. You are aiming for the large buildings that have the lights coming out of them. The Manta will still be in danger from enemy dragons and you will still have to dodge spotlights so be very careful and keep going up high to avoid the spotlights. Eventually the next objective will come up and send you towards the Mokai Armory, the large circular tower in the center of the level. Grab some more bombs and speed off in that direction. Move slowly and bomb the armory until kingdom come to finish off this mission. ======================================= 9. Out of the Ashes ======================================= As soon as the level starts begin to move in a straight line until you see a group of swarmers. Use the fire stream attack on them and then turn left, you need to follow the vegetation path. Fly towards the stone arch, killing off any swarmers that come and head right into a valley. Head left once past that and stay that way, going over the rocks to find the water. Now you have to fight a Spiderwasp, it's really freaking big. As impressive as it may look there is a simple way to take it out. Shoot at the Spiderwasp, it doesn't matter where, and keep dodging its attacks. It will attempt to hit you with its stinger, dodge this and then dash forward to get on its back. From here you will need to tear up its shell. Eventually you will move away, but all you need to do is repeat the pattern used above. It should take you doing this three times to finish off this giant vermin. You will now be in a chase scene, so move after the enemy dragons as quickly as possible, shooting them down as you do so. You will reach a section with two large Warbeasts here and your target is on their back. Keep going after them over and over until the platorms have been knocked off. After those are done, you need to go close to their legs, latch onto them and then dask to take the two of them down. Get rid of them to end the mission. ======================================= 10. Breaking the Ice ======================================= You don't really need to fight much here but it is a good idea to take out as many enemies as you can to take some of the head off of yourself. The objective arrow will point the way towards the ballistas you need to take out but be very careful here, these things can blow you to pieces really fast. Take them out as carefully as possible. Once you have gotten rid of the ballistas, land and start taking out the enemy soldiers. You shouldn't need much in the ways of any tips to get rid of the ground soldiers. Once they are all dead, then the quest is finished. ======================================= 11. Deadman's Basin ======================================= Yeah... this is one of the hardest missions ever. You will need to use your Rage mode freely here, do not conserve it. Kill as many enemies as possible while you are raged and it should make this level a bit easier on you. To start with stay low to the ground and use your flame attacks to take out the red Asylian troops. Entertain yourself doing this until you are told to protect the Mokai. You must make sure that the Asylians do not win during this mission at any point or you will lose the mission and have to start over. It can happen at some pretty in-opportune moments. Start killing as many enemies as possible by following the objective arrow. There will be a large assortment of enemey soldiers, rhinos and dragons so get to slaying. Take note that this objective never really ends, you will have to come back and keep going after the enemy soldiers to spare your troops from being destroyed by the Asylians. Eventually you will be told to head towards some Warbeasts, go over there and take one out. Now quickly run back to your troops, kill off some Asylian troops and then come back to handle another Warbeast. Keep this up over and over until you have knocked off all the Warbeasts. This is where the fight gets really freaking hard. Quickly rush out towards the water and start to destroy the bigger of the ships. The larger the ship the more damage it can do to your troops. Take out one or two and then rush back to your troops and go after the enemy soldiers. During this period of you running around a Manta will come after your troops. Do everything that you can to take it out before it gets to do too much damage. Once it has been taken out you will be told to destroy a damn. Yeah, this part is fun. Any enemy ships that you haven't taken out yet will be coming after your troops and you will also have to contend with enemy dragons attacking you. It is most imperative that you move to the four vulnerable spots on the dam as quickly as humanly possible. You will have to take them out before the dragons kill you or your troops get themselves wiped out. Good luck with this one, but when you do complete it you can breath a sigh of relief, this is one of the hardest of the missions in this game. ======================================= 12. Ruins of Mokai ======================================= You will have to defend the Mokai here while you wait for the Asylians. So its time to get to work, there are a bucketload of soldiers to kill here and you might as well have some fun. Get into the thick of it and start slaughtering them with your dragons melee attacks and use flame breath to wipe them out. You should come across a group of three rhinos who are accompanied with a whole lot of troops. Get rid of them and a group of seven rhinos will appear with yet more troops, so get to work. Eventually you will have to seal the Siege Locks on the Gatehouse so fly to the top of the gate and destroy the chains to close the gate. Now head for the water and destroy the enemy ships, rage vision can help you with this portion of the mission. Make sure to go to the city walls and start taking out the guns that are located up on the walls, your ships will suffer for it if you don't. Now head up into the air and get rid of the dragons up here. You will have to wipe them out to end the mission. ======================================= 13. Bridge of the Ancients ======================================= This mission starts off fairly hard but it gets a bit easier. The reason it is so hard is that you have to get rid of the turrets on the coastal outposts before they destroy your ships, you can only lose one ship before you lose the whole mission. Fly forward towards the towers and start getting rid of the turrets on them, there are four on top of each of the towers. Now move to the next outpost and take out the turrets there before moving to the left. Go past your Warbeasts and thin out the dragons here but make no effort to wipe them all out. It is a lot simpler if you keep moving. There are three more outposts, each with four turrets to take out. Keep on moving and take out dragons as you can but make no effort to deviate from your path to do so but keep on moving. Rage mode can be of some real help here since it slows down the enemies but you still do not have all that much time. It is important that you make sure that your hear a message saying that the outpost has been wiped out before you move on, you cannot leave even a lone turret behind. It's time for a pair of dual objectives, the first of which has you trying to take out the Asylian fleet and defend the Mantas. Use your Rage mode to take out the dragons who will be going after your mantas, if you try to fight them at full speed you might hit your Mantas. Thin out the dragons and turn your eye to the ships in the water below. They will try to destroy the bridge so move quickly from one objective to the other. If you make good use of Rage Mode you should be able to handle this one. Another dual objective, you have to take out the Asylian armies Warbeasts and defend your own Warships at the same time... this one sucks. Not as bad as the last mission but still. You will have to take out a bunch of large yellow dragons and their accompanying smaller dragons who are harrying your warships while you also try to take out the Asylian warbeasts. The yellow dragons are immune to your fire so you will have to go melee with them. Thin out the small dragons and then engage the large ones in fight mode. Once you have done all of this, go to the Warbeasts and use Rage Mode to make taking them out easier. If you do this right you should be able to complete this mission without too many difficulties. Good luck! ======================================= 14. Maelstrom ======================================= While this mission is shorter than the last it is still fairly hard. As soon as it starts you will have to take out three steam generators. Rather than going after the generators, ignore that and go after the cannons. They reload very slowly but they can kill you incredibly fast so be carefully. Get rid of them before you go after the steam generators. The Steam Generators are on platforms connected to the main mass by cables, fly up to the generators and tear them apart to get past of this objective. If you do not get rid of the cannons this mission is almost twice as hard. You will then be told to destroy all the cannons. If you listened to me and destroyed them before going after the steam generators this mission will be a fair sight easier. There will be two cannons near the prison in the center of the area, get rid of them and you will move on to the next objective. Yeah, Loden is a mean little SoB. Go after the boulders that he throws because he will try to destroy the prison and cause you to lose the mission. Don't take any chances, destroy the boulders as quickly as possible and then lock onto Loden himself, rushing in to start fight mode. Defeat him like you have taken out all the others. Once he gets low on life you will have to dodge the boulders that he throws at you and then follow the onscreen prompts to finish him off and end this mission. ======================================= 15. Battle for Asylia ======================================= By and large this mission is a lot easier than the last one, so you are in for a fair breather after that last hellish level. To start this mission you will need to protect your ships and Mantas from the enemy dragosn and turrets. You should be able to handle this part without all that much difficulty. Once this is done you will need to grab up some bombs from atop one of the Mantas and start dropping them onto the two bridges, this will eliminate them and clear this objective. Once the bridges are gone you will have to get rid of the enemy Manta bombers. They will devastate your allies if you aren't careful so it is best to get rid of them as quickly as you possibly can, or at least get rid of a few of them to make your army a bit safer. Now head forward and start going after the enemy soldiers, going after the Warbeasts when you can. Use rage mode to make your life easier here. Get them out of your way and then head for the palace. As you near the palace you will see some more of those incredibly dangerous cannons, go after them as carefully as you possibly can or you will die right here. After the cutscene plays you will have to grab some more bombs from one of your Mantas and drop them into the three lava vents surrounding the volcano. This is pretty difficult to do since you need to aim incredibly carefully and enemmy dragons will be trying to hit you which can caue you to drop your bombs. If you are having difficulty then use the ability to slow down and hover liberally to make your life a bit easier when it comes to aiming them. Now to finish off this mission and finish off the game, you need to wipe out the palace. Pick up yet more bombs from the Mantas and start to bomb the palace to finish it off. Congrats! You beat Lair! ========================================================= Notes ========================================================= Level Bonuses ============== Double Strike - Clear Day of Terror with a medal. Feeding Stike - Clear Demon Pass with a medal. Health Increase - Clear Crossing at Dawn with a medal Health Increase - Clear Firestorm with a medal. When you clear Firestorm more options in the Extras screen will open up for you to view, such as Making of videos and a music player. ============== The Stable ============== Plains Dragon - This is the dragon you start off with, there's nothing really special about it. He can be considered the "default" dragon of the game. Blood Dragon - You will get this dragon in chapter 8. He seems to be a bit stronger and faster than the Plains Dragon but he doesn't seem to spit his fire balls as rapidly as the other one. It bears note that he has considerably more health than the Plains Dragon. ========================================================= 6. Medals ========================================================= The requirements to get medals in the first stage are almost laughably easy once you are used to the game. Later stages are not so simple so persistance and constant training will be required to get them. Here are some general tips to help you with gathering up the required stats. Carnage - To get higher amounts of Carnage, make sure you go for the flashier kills. Melee kills are worth a higher amount of Carnage and doing it while in Rage mode doubles the amount of points further. Time - Speed can be key in some levels so make sure you master the following technique. When controlling your dragon dash forward and, as soon as it ends, begin to tap the X button to accelerate. After three flaps you can dash again, letting you cover incredible distances in a rather short amount of time. Enemies - The best way to increase the amount of enemies that you take out is linked to the Carnage rating. Make sure you get used to killing enemies in combo chains by doing things like ramming an enemy, hitting them with fire to take them out and then moving to fireball another. Any derivation of those sort of methods will help you cut through the enemies like a hot dragon tooth through enemy soldiers. Allies - This is the trickier one. Keeping your allies alive can be a bit of a chore at times so be careful. This will require you to go after the enemies fast enough that they will not get the chance to knock off your troops. I can't really say much here, it is a matter of getting used to the stages and then learning how to complete the objectives fast enough, while killing enemies, to minimize the damage your allies take. ===================== 1. Day of Terror ===================== The only thing that will stop you from getting these medals is the difficulty you will likely be having with the controls. Once you get used to it you should be able to get the gold medal easily. There is little in the ways of strategy to be had here, simply assault the enemy forces with everything you have as fast as you can to do this. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 100 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 20:00. Defeat at least 10 enemies. Lose less than 32 allies. Lose no more than 3 lives. Save no Grain silos. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 2200 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 8:00. Defeat 18 enemies. Lose less than 30 allies. Lose no more than 1 life. Save 1 Grain Silo. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 3000 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 2:15. Defeat at least 22 enemies. Lose less than 28 allies Do not die. Save 3 Grain Silos. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 4000 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 1:31. Defeat at least 28 enemies. Lose less than 5 allies. Do not die. Save 3 Grain Silos. ===================== 2. Blood River ===================== To ensure that you protect the grain barges try your best to hover near them and not go too fast. The hardest part of this level is protecting all of the grain barges and doing it fast enough to qualify for the medals. If you can get rid of all the catapults as they appear then the level should go by fast enough for you to get a good medal. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 6,500 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 12:00 Defeat at least 150 enemies. Lose less than 14 allies. Lose no more than 2 lives. Save 2 Grain Barges. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 7,900 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 8:30. Defeat 275 enemies. Lose less than 10 allies. Lose no more than two life. Save 3 Grain Barges. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 15,000 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 7:30. Defeat at least 500 enemies. Lose less than 9 allies Do not die. Save 4 Grain Barges. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 19,500 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 6:15. Defeat at least 700 enemies. Lose less than 8 allies. Do not die. Save 4 Grain Barges. ===================== 3. Demon Pass ===================== The problem here is two-fold. 1) You can only allow yourself to be spotted once if you want the silver and none at all if you want the gold. 2) It is going to be a difficult task to complete this mission with enough carnage to qualify for the higher level medals. Keep your eyes open for Rage mode and use it whenever you can. Also, go for manual take-downs as often as possible by entering rage mode and ramming the other dragons out of the air. That should get you enough points to qualify for the gold at least. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 3,500 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 12:00. Defeat at least 10 enemies. Lose less than 6 allies. Lose no more than 2 lives. Get spotted four times or less. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 4,500 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 7:15. Defeat 15 enemies. Lose less than 5 allies. Lose no more than one life. Get spotted once. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 7,500 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 5:30. Defeat at least 22 enemies. Lose less than 4 allies Do not die. Don't get spotted. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 13,000 Carnage. Complete stage in less than 3:30. Defeat at least 37 enemies. Lose less than 2 allies. Do not die. Don't get spotted. ===================== 4. Crossing at Dawn ===================== This mission is not easy to complete normally much less to get the medals. You will need to save both guardians and save most of your allies, this is far from an easy feat. I suggest you practice the early portion of the game repeatedly until you can rescue both of the guardians without difficulty. Then move on to defeating the enemies. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 6,300 Carnage Complete stage in less than 15:00. Defeat 130 enemies. Lose less than 12 allies. Lose no more than 2 life. Save 1 Guardian. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 7,200 Carnage Complete stage in less than 11:00. Defeat 150 enemies. Lose less than 10 allies. Lose no more than 1 life. Save 1 Guardian. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 20,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 7:00. Defeat at least 200 enemies. Lose less than 8 allies Do not die. Save 2 Guardians. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 28,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 5:50. Defeat at least 300 enemies. Lose less than 6 allies. Do not die. Save 2 Guardians. ===================== 5. Serpent Strait ===================== The biggest problem here is protecting the Mantas. Nothing will really be as hard as keeping these humongous targets alive, especially since you will can do damage to them. Use Rage Vision and single out the enemies and use lock ons to get rid of them. Fly high over the mantas so that you can keep hitting the dragons without hitting your escorts. If you have gotten good at it try to bounce from enemy to enemy with melee charges, this keeps your mantas safe and stops you from hitting them with stray fireballs. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 6,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 16:00. Defeat 12 enemies. Lose less than 15 allies. Lose no more than 3 life. Save 4 Mantas. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 7,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 11:00. Defeat 18 enemies. Lose less than 12 allies. Lose no more than 2 life. Save 5 Mantas. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 11,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 7:00. Defeat at least 25 enemies. Lose less than 8 allies Do not die. Save 7 Mantas. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 20,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 6:00. Defeat at least 30 enemies. Lose less than 6 allies. Do not die. Save 8 Mantas. ===================== 6. Ravine of No Return ===================== They are pretty liberal with the amount of times you are allowed to get hit by the spotlights unless you are going after the Gold or Platinum medals. The fact that you cannot get hit less than 10 times can cause you to move really slowly but this will result in taking too long to complete the stage. You have to balance your speed with a certain degree of caution if you want to balance these two oppsing goals successfully. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 5,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 12:00. Defeat 10 enemies. Lose no more than 2 life. Get spotted less than 20 times. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 7,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 11:00. Defeat 20 enemies. Lose no more than 2 life. Get spotted less than 15 times. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 10,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 5:10. Defeat at least 30 enemies. Do not die. Get spotted less than 8 times. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 20,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 4:10. Defeat at least 35 enemies. Do not die. Get spotted less than 4 times. ===================== 7. Firestorm ===================== The problem with getting the gold here will be keeping the mantas alive while you try to kill off enough enemies. I heavily suggest you use the same strategy as the Serpent Strait level, it is pretty much applicable here. Just remember to hover when dropping the bombs on the armory. If you are going for speed you cannot afford to be missing shots. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 9,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 17:30. Defeat at least 100 enemies. Lose less than 80 allies. Die less than 2 times Save 1 Mantas. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 21,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 12:00. Defeat at least 140 enemies. Lose less than 50 allies. Die less than 2 times. Save 3 Mantas. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 30,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 10:00. Defeat at least 175 enemies. Lose less than 30 allies. Do not die. Save 8 Mantas. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 46,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 6:30. Defeat at least 270 enemies. Lose less than 20 allies. Do not die. Save 8 Mantas. ===================== 8. Out of the Ashes ===================== You should have few problems with this stage so long as you keep on moving and do your best not to slow down. Kill any enemies you see with your flame breath attack when you close in on them, spitting off rapid fireballs from a distance. The problem with a gold will come when you reach the end with the dragon chase. Lock onto them and try to fire off the big fireballs as quickly as you can. Do not let yourself run into an obstacle or enemy dragon since your dragon will be deflected and your aim will be sent wild. If you are worried that you haven't killed off enough enemies to satisfy the requirements for the medal destroy the platforms on the backs of the Warbeasts and then land and slaughter some of the ground troops. That should help. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 5,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 20:00. Defeat at least 12 enemies. Lose less than 30 allies. Die less than 2 times Kill no Fleeing Burners. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 8,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 11:45. Defeat at least 25 enemies. Lose less than 20 allies. Die less than 2 times. Kill 3 Fleeing Burners. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 14,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 8:45. Defeat at least 150 enemies. Lose less than 10 allies. Do not die. Kill 8 Fleeing Burners. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 22,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 8:00. Defeat at least 250 enemies. Lose less than 6 allies. Do not die. Kill 9 Fleeing Burners. ===================== 9. Breaking the Ice ===================== It is basically you on your lonesome to cause as much destruction as possible. Do your best to build up your rage meter before you land, you can do this quite fast if you take down the dragons in some dragon fights. Then, destroy the ballistas as you are directed and land in the midst of the enemy troops. Use Rage mode and spam the circle attack, causing a stomp that wipes out enemies in the area. Run to another group and repeat. This should get you the carnage and kills you need as well as help you with the time. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 3,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 15:00. Defeat at least 40 enemies. Die less than 2 times Kill 1 Leader Dragon. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 6,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 11:45. Defeat at least 60 enemies. Die less than 2 times. Kill 3 Leader Dragon. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 12,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 5:00. Defeat at least 110 enemies. Do not die. Kill 5 Leader Dragon. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 18,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 4:00. Defeat at least 132 enemies. Do not die. Kill 7 Leader Dragon. ===================== 10. Deadmans Basin ===================== This level is hard enough as it is, you should have no extra difficulties in getting the medals. You will probably have to replay this level several times to get past it and in that time you will learn more about the stage than I can suggest. Your best bet is to memorize where things come from and how to best take them out. If you can do that then this will be a struggle, but you can get the gold. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 5,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 20:00. Defeat at least 12 enemies. Lose less than 30 allies. Die less than 2 times Destroy 3 ship. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 8,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 11:45. Defeat at least 25 enemies. Lose less than 20 allies. Die less than 2 times. Destroy 4 ship. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 14,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 8:45. Defeat at least 150 enemies. Lose less than 10 allies. Do not die. Destroy 6 ship. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 22,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 8:00. Defeat at least 250 enemies. Lose less than 6 allies. Do not die. Destroy 7 ship. ===================== 11. Ruins of Mokai ===================== Probably the hardest part of this level is getting past the Rhinos. It is easy to take out the first three and some of the second wave but getting rid of them all without wasting too much time can be a real hassle, especially since you have to melee them. Rage mode will help you tear them apart faster so I heavily advise you to use that to get rid of them. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 4,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 15:00. Defeat at least 40 enemies. Die less than 2 times Kill 4 Rhinos. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 7,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 11:45. Defeat at least 60 enemies. Die less than 2 times. Kill 6 Rhinos. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 13,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 5:00. Defeat at least 110 enemies. Do not die. Kill 8 Rhinos. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 20,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 4:00. Defeat at least 132 enemies. Do not die. Kill 10 Rhinos. ===================== 12. Bridge of the Ancients ===================== There is little that can be said about this mission. It simply boils down to your ability to multi-task. If you haven't gotten the hang of using the Sixaxis by now then you really are going to be helpless here. Abuse Rage mode since that is the key to getting through this one. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 3,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 15:00. Defeat at least 40 enemies. Die less than 2 times Save 1 ship. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 6,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 11:45. Defeat at least 60 enemies. Die less than 2 times. Save 1 ship. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 12,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 5:00. Defeat at least 110 enemies. Do not die. Save 2 ship. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 18,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 4:00. Defeat at least 132 enemies. Do not die. Save 2 ship. ===================== 13. Maelstrom ===================== The key here is speed. You have lots of different targets and then you have to fight Loden on his dragon. Speed is your friend, as such you should go after the cannons as rapidly as possible before you wipe out the steam generators. Then go straight after Loden. You can afford to be a bit reckless here but do not let the cannons or boulders hit you or you're paste. Even one death will cost you the Gold. ===================== 14. Battle for Asylia ===================== Since there are so many things trying to kill you in this stage, the two hard parts here are getting the enemy kills and not dying. To help with the amount of kills that you need to get, it will help if you use the melee attacks to get rid of them, otherwise you will waste too much time. If you can keep dropping the enemies while you protect the Mantas the gold should be easier to get. **************** Bronze Medal **************** Get 5,500 Carnage Complete stage in less than 20:00. Defeat at least 12 enemies. Die less than 2 times Save 1 Manta. **************** Silver Medal **************** Get 8,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 11:45. Defeat at least 25 enemies. Die less than 2 times. Save 2 Manta. **************** Gold Medal **************** Get 14,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 8:45. Defeat at least 150 enemies. Do not die. Save 3 Manta. **************** Platinum Metal **************** Get 22,000 Carnage Complete stage in less than 8:00. Defeat at least 250 enemies. Do not die. Save 4 Manta. ========================================================= 7.
