Big changes for Pokemon Go with 80 extra pokemon, gender-specific variations and new evolutions

TODO alt text

Big changes are coming to Pokemon Go with loads of new pokemon, gender specific variations, different catching techniques and berry varieties. There's a lot going on and it's all arriving "later this week" so let's work through what's coming.

80 new Gold and Silver pokemon

The info actually teases "more than" 80 new pokemon, so 81? 82? Anyway, the important thing is that the additions all hail from Johto region, via the Pokemon Gold and Silver games. The examples given so far are Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile.

Gender specific pokemon and new evolutions

The new update will bring with it the opportunity to capture "gender-specific variations of select wild Pokemon." We've already seen that with Nidoran♀ and Nidoran♂ currently, so expect more of that in the coming weeks.

You'll also apparently be able to evolve existing pokemon into "pokemon that were previously not seen in Pokemon Go". There are also "new evolution items that can be used to evolve some pokemon" that can be found at PokeStops.

New captures

Pokemon will now apparently react in different ways when you encounter them in the wild. How, has yet to be seen which could make life interesting. There's also going to be a new, quicker way to select items.

New berries

Joining razz berries (which make pokemon easier to catch overall) will be nanab berries to slow the creatures down and pinap berries to double the amount of candy you can get when you catch them. That last one is defintely going to make evolutions a lot easier.

New trainer clothes and gear

There are new clothes and accessories on the way to tart up your trainer. That's all the info there is on that though, so we'll have to wait and see what we get.

As I mentioned before this is all due in the next week, so keep an eye out - it all sounds like an exciting shake up for the game.
