UPDATE: According to a Gematsu translation of a post on Bethesda’s Japanese website, the game will be powered by the latest version of the id Tech 5 engine. It will star a detective called Sebastian who has to fight his way through a world filled with monsters and cruel traps. As he attempts to survive on limited resources, environments will distort and warp around him, transforming in real time based on evil forces at work and the player’s actions.

ORIGINAL STORY: Bethesda has officially revealed the debut project from Resident Evil and Vanquish creator Shinji Mikami's Tango Gameworks studio, which it acquired in 2010. The Evil Within is an action horror title scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PS3, next-gen consoles and PC in 2014.

Putting an end to days of teasing, Bethesda released a live action trailer for the game, which you can view below. Mikami also told IGN. “We’re incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within. My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action.” Further details about the game are due to be released next Monday, April 22.

Anyone else think it's funny how an evil that presides within is essentially a resident evil?

New survival horror will always get my interest and with the names involved I'm expecting good things, but some gameplay would have been nice, as opposed to some pretty awful live action trailer

I'll check it out, always down for the survival horror cause. But at least show a gameplay trailer not some live action Evil Dead knock off.

This looks kinda dumb, but I like the guy with a safe on his head. I just wish it was a gameplay trailer rather than a teaster, because that doesn't make me want to play the game at all.

In Mikami we trust! Also Bethesa helping sounds great. Nonetheless I think I won't have guts to play this game XD

Decent trailer that kind of shat the bed at the end with the ridiculously fake looking explosion of guts. I'll wait and see on this.

Lol I know, they were building atmosphere, I was getting interested in what the hell was going on and then the safe on the dude's head opened and bam, a explosion worthy of conker's bad fur day.

Not a fan of horror games, so I'll likely pass. Hey Bethesda, you have a gold mine waiting with some new Fallout material, what are you waiting for? Rockstar is always working on GTA games, and Activision continually puts out new COD's, why aren't you listening to what we gamers are clamering for?
  • haxxoromg - April 19, 2013 5:22 p.m.

because trying new things is good too and is how they came up with stuff like fallout in the first place. theyre likely already working on the next fallout game, but just aren't ready to show it, just like theyre likely early in the dev cycle for the new elder scrolls game.

I'm all for new ideas in games, but one way to pay for it is to continue making or updating the games that have a huge fan base. I'm sure Bono would like to sing showtunes, but he knows U2's moneymaker is rock music.

I always find it really hard to get excited about games when they release a live action trailer than gives me next to nothing as far as info on the game. Maybe E3 will give me a reason to care.
  • Firepunch - April 19, 2013 10:45 a.m.

Kind of disappointing that the reveal was a live action trailer but it sounds like it could be awsome
  • Sy87 - April 19, 2013 8:36 a.m.

I thought it was a new resident evil. Box head walks like and looks like the executioner. But we will see.
