Battlefield 4 engine powers next Mass Effect and Dragon Age 3

Frostbite 3 provides the framework for BioWare's biggest franchises

The next Mass Effect and Dragon Age 3: Inquisition will run on Battlefield 4's Frostbite 3 engine, BioWare General Manager Aaryn Flynn revealed yesterday.

EA previously announced Dragon Age 3 would run on Frostbite 2--a mix-up, according to BioWare Montreal Studio Director Yanick Roy--and that Mass Effect would use an unspecified version of DICE's engine. Battlefield 4's 17-minute demonstration was graphically impressive, so we should have some darn pretty spaceships and elves in our RPG future.

Neither Dragon Age 3 nor the next Mass Effect have a release date, but chances are good that both are next-gen projects.
