Batman: Arkham City box art revealed

Batman means fucking business. In the just-unveiled box art for Arkham City, our hero is rendered mostly in shades of simple blacks, whites and greys… except for his crime-fighting fists, of course, which are appropriately splattered with bright red blood. Take a look:

If you’ve been paying attention to Batman: Arkham City since the sequel was first announced last year, you’ll recognize this visual motif immediately – similar images have been used on magazine covers and are available as wallpapers on the game’s official website.

What do you think about this box art? I admire the starkness, and can appreciate it from a design point of view, but I would prefer that Arkham City’s cover complemented the original game’s look rather than an issue of Game Informer. These two are going to look sort of strange sitting next to each other, aren’t they?

I hate 'Ah he's punching me through the cover' covers. :-(

I agree, it's definitely going to look strange next to arkham asylum

An M Rated Batman game would seem appropiate.

    I prefer my box art.

I agree - the pose looks really strange given his facial expression. It looks more like he is posing than actually throwing a punch (look at his expression on the Game Informer cover - that looks better). I usually don't have strong opinions about game covers but this one just doesn't work. At least the game should be good.

Where's the box art for the Collector's Edition, which they HAVE to be releasing a version of.

Yeah i don't agree with the blood on his knuckles. Granted he punches the crap out of people. A lot. But in the first game you never saw blood flying out of enemies. Makes him look like a murderer which is exactly against how he is supposed to be portrayed. Also his facial expression looks as though he's smelt something bad. Needs to be changed.

You guys missed the most important fact (though you can't see it on this page, you need to go to the front and see all three covers next to each other)! The PS3 version is obviously better, because it has verrrrry slightly more graphic shown on the edges. Yes, I'm kidding. What I am not kidding about though is that I am pissed as hell that Harley Quinn isn't on the cover. The link quincytheodore gave was perfect. With 100% seriousness, I don't give a damn about this game except for Harley Quinn in it. If she isn't THE MAIN part of the game, who gives a damn about the game at all? Batman himself has no business being shown as the "star" or focal point of the game. She is the singular Batman character worth even knowing about. Seriously. Quit trying to pander to inane "fans" who think that Batman (or even Joker) matters. They're wrong. Great, now you got me all pissed off. Time to eat a sandwich.

Yikes I hope this is one that changes for the EU market because as you rightly point out it just looks like a magazine cover missing the font splashes. Oh well it's whats on the inside as the cliche goes...
  • MyCoolWhiteLies - June 16, 2011 7:03 a.m.

I love the style, but as others have mentioned, the pose kind of sucks. I'd rather it be something more subdued and dramatic.

I prefer the one with Harley Quinn, because she wears red, so the contrast looks nicer. This is okay though. I mean this one
  • Vincemaster - June 16, 2011 5:29 a.m.

That's the exact same image on the OXM July Issue cover... pretty cool though.
  • buro13 - June 16, 2011 4:56 a.m.

I was kinda looking for Batman bending over Catwoman and giving her the "Baterang"....but I guess that's just me ;)
  • blocpartier - June 16, 2011 4:38 a.m.

Not very appealing to me. The location of the logo really throws my eyes away from the subject.

I think it's beautiful. I actually got both covers of the Game Informer so I could have both pieces of art. I love the way it feels dark... yet it's white. That's brilliant. I like the cover with Batman and Catwoman back to back. But this is just another example of a really talented team of artist. Bravo!

should be the cover of a wrestling game instead. or the cover of a game where some guy (other than batman) uses his fists like all through the game. to put it simply, he looks wack like that. go back up and look at him.

    Round 1: FIGHT!
  • sgloomy - June 16, 2011 3:35 a.m.

I'm ok with the whole black and white bit, but like most people here, I don't like the pose. it looks really awkward and makes Batman look kinda fat, i know its the angle but it still bothers me. The image they had with Catwoman leaning on Batman's back: that I would like, and yes, it would be much nicer if it was in a color scheme that matched the first game

    Pretty badass
