Sony has announced B-Boy, a dance-off game centred on stylish skills, for release on PSP and PS2 in September.
Billed as a fighting game as much as a rhythm-action game, players are given access to over 800 motion-captured moves in order to 'toprock' and 'freeze' their way to the top of the freestyle pile, from lowly street battles through to the world championships. Makes a difference from 'shooting' and 'driving' our way to the top, at least.
Developed by FreeStyleGames, B-Boy is being overseen by its in-game host, Crazy Legs from the Rock Steady Crew. "B-boy culture is one of the four core elements of hip-hop," said Mr Legs. "SCEE and FreeStyleGames have managed to put together this game in a way that means the hip-hop community can be sure that the integrity and art of b-boying won't be compromised."
Those not wanting to prove their rep through the career mode can just head to the game's arcade for some straightforward boogie-scrapping, or take part in wireless multiplayer face-offs on PSP. 40 b-boy rivals are tucked away in the game, too, including real-world dance mentalists like Crumbs, Lillou and Mouse.
Feeling buoyant for B-Boy, or couldn't give a moonwalk about Mouse's toprock? As yet, we've no idea how it'll play so maybe it'll turn out to be a satisfying bit of rhythm-action, even if you're not into its culture. Be sure to check back soon...
