Aaaand this is why I don't even bother to look at metacritic for game information.

-SolarPoweredShitMachine "I don't think there's a game in existance that deserves below a 3/10" Try Hellboy :) And lol @ consumers. If they get sucked in by marketing and buy games on day 1 only to be dissapointed it's not the ballcrushing epic they worked themselves up for then boo hoo for them. If their money means that much to them to publicy have themselves a little hissy fit over what they spent it on, maybe they should have a little patience and spend more cautiously eh? Brilliant, solidly playable and enjoyable games, albeit short, is what Valve does. If they specifically need a game that fills day after basement-dwelling day then research for those needs and go get a Fallout title. How do they get through a day? 'oh i'm hungry, so i went out and bought a caravan, but it's shit and won't fit in my cretinous whine-spewing mouth.... 0/10.' Idiots. As for 'Oh no there's DLC' - yes it's stupid and to anyone sane, pointless, but unless you NEED a hat on your robot (you don't) then shrug and move on, it doesn't change or add to the game experience in any way whatsoever and is not worth bleating loudly about. The Potato Sack was a marvellous idea, even if it's purpose was implemented a little late sparking a frenzied fanboi rush for the unlock, instead of using it to just have some fun. But it was very nice to see Valve allow their product to promote other quality indie titles with some much deserved exposure, that wasn't just more hat unlocks.

It's good to see people defend Portal 2 since it's an amazing game. The problems like the DLC which apparently are just hats and skins is totally stupid. Hat and skins add nothing and it's just a micro transaction that tons of other games use, ignore this DLC if you hate it so much. It add absolutely nothing to the game play. Furthermore I feel the length is just about perfect, you could just buy Bejewled for a dollar and get tons of hours out of the game play. The game is great in the few hours it lasts and must say that it was a great $60 spent.
  • Asmodean - April 20, 2011 11:11 p.m.

Giving a Lower rating is all well and good, but petty complaints against what is arguably a great game is just stupid. These 'people' are panning a game with 0's for minor issues, if they can't use there brains to forward meaningful arguments, for them it's either the Best game in history or utter crap there never anything in between. They have not right to be telling other what to buy or what there little mind think.
  • Yeager1122 - April 20, 2011 10:54 p.m.

I havent played Dragon Age 2 but it got bashed by users on metacritic and im sure it wasnt a game worthy of a 0 so portal 2 shouldnt feel lonely in this regard.
  • Nomaddic - April 20, 2011 10:49 p.m.

I don't disagree that a thumbs up thumbs down system would be better and I haven't played Portal 2. But I think consumers are valid in giving low scores to products from companies they feel are taking advantage of them. If they don't, no know is going to notice or care about the consumer complaints.
  • MonocledYaoGuai - April 20, 2011 10:42 p.m.

    Oh /v/, you so crazy.
  • sleepyMexican45 - April 20, 2011 10:39 p.m.

Another thing, the graphics engine is ancient.
  • Asmodean - April 20, 2011 10:33 p.m.

These losers need to shut up and enjoy games, all their bitching take time away from fun. First of all the game is 6-8 hours, that however is not with a stand alone co-op mode. 6-8 hours can be bad just not with this game, every moment is accentuated with with game play, punctuated with tension or comedy and crescendo moments that draw you in. All that in a 8 hour game is well worth the price of admission. In terms of PC vs Console, this is a BS argument, As a agnostic gamer who payed this on PC I have no doubt this game is very much a PC lead. One very minor error dose not a console port make. The DLC argument is also bull, what DLC? ohh you mean the hats and skins, those things that have nothing to do with the game play or story? The hole potato Sack/early release issue can is about as meaningful a complaint as the DLC, what did these baby's want, the game a week before anyone else? it did come out early, by several hours and there lucky VALVE is cool that way. It just pisses me off so much that these brats are bitching about this game for no good reason, Frankly sites that let the public give a revue should only let them have 2 options "like" or "dislike". Leave revues to those who are paid for it!
  • majrf22 - April 20, 2011 10:10 p.m.

I'll say it right now, The base game of portal 2 is amazing. The pacing is near perfect and it manages to have a more fleshed out story with essentially a human, two AI's and a prerecorded voice than most games manage at all. Yes the potato sack thing was pointless as is the dlc but its OPTIONAL and none of it is even necessary.
  • XLGirthMan - April 20, 2011 10:04 p.m.

It's true, 60$ for a 3-5 hour game is total crap, even if it is Portal 2.
  • ChickenFillet5140 - April 20, 2011 10:01 p.m.

These guys are fuckin' idiots! They have a right to express their views on the game but this is a real shitty way to make your point. Get a life you whiney bitches. On the other hand I despise the growing trend of releasing part of a game and selling the rest in expensive installments, it's screwing gamers like myself who can barely afford a €60 game as it is. I just wanna play some games and not have to worry about when the next piece of DLC shit will be hitting our virtual shelves.
  • WTeen8 - April 20, 2011 9:55 p.m.

*deep breathe* SHUT UP FANBOYS! all right, that's all.
  • WikiParazFTW - April 20, 2011 9:51 p.m.

Look, a developer has the complete right to make their game however they want, sure there is a short singleplayer again, but now it's got co-op, which is awesome. And the DLC choices could have been made by EA, so they shouldn't bitch about Valve, they should bitch about EA. And who gives a flying fuck if wheter or not you didn't get the game as early as you wanted, there could have been complications in their process of releasing it ealry, remember the publisher could have made choice that they release hous early. It is a complete insult to Valve and makes those whiners seem like little bitches when they do this.
  • Hatebread - April 20, 2011 9:48 p.m.

But as matter of fact Portal 2 is not an EP or a short film. I'd rather have a game, movie or a record be the perfect length instead of adding as much crap as possible, just to please an unpleasable fanbase - and that's what it's about in the end: People who want the perfect game catered to their tastes. As for the game itself, I'm about halfway through the game right now and don't see the need to stretch out the tutorials for another few levels just too make the game seem longer.
  • blakebeauchamp - April 20, 2011 9:46 p.m.

5 hours of singleplayer is saddening for the $60 price, the DLC irked me a little too. However the game itself is such a great experience that I could play it for quite a while, and did anyone forget the co-op? I love portal 2, plus with all the incoming updates for the PS3 and PC I find it hard to stay mad at Valve.
  • Shinespark428 - April 20, 2011 9:37 p.m.

@Cosmis I agree with you completely. Portal 2 is probably really brilliant, and I will probably buy it when the price drops. But, people don't normally charge full price for an EP or a short film, so why charge $60 for a game under 10 hours. So yeah Portal 2- Great, $60- not so much.
  • linksawakening - April 20, 2011 9:37 p.m.

Halo Reach was criticized for having a short campaign by a lot of reviewers and it included an awesome multiplayer, firefight, and coop mode. I'm sick of games having short or half assed single player. I like multiplayer and all but no one is taking into account the fact that (and this is totally offtopic) at some point they're gonna shut the servers off for most of these games and if the single player sucked you won't have much to go back to. Plus portal is a mostly single player game and if you're paying 60 dollars for it, it better be worth 60 dollars not something you can finish in a day.
  • ZenRobot - April 20, 2011 9:29 p.m.

i actually fully support Valve's decision to offer day one DLC for Portal 2 that is non-relevant to game play. they have made an incredible game that has the opportunity to be a huge cash cow for them so let them have at it. They are Valve, the greatest. If you are the type of person who wants to buy a hat for your robot, then you're the type of person who will probably pay a buck for it. As for the rest of us, Portal 2 is a pure gaming experience with no need for extras.
  • Jackelsburg - April 20, 2011 9:22 p.m.

isnt there a whole co-op section that is a part of the game too? so wouldnt that help add to the length? but otherwise yea these are some legitimate concerns, it definitely doesnt mean the game should get a score of 0 because of it
