Action Adventure of the Year nominations revealed

Can we all agree that Action Adventure has the most exciting title of any of the genres? It offers a clear promise: You will receive either action, or adventure. Perhaps both. From there, the possibilities are limitless. Shooting, stabbing, running, jumping, exploring, infiltrating, hiding, seeking...this list could go on. Seven games did it better than the rest this year; see below for GamesRadar's 2012 Action Adventure of the Year nominations.

Check back on December 13 to find out GamesRadar's 2012 Action Adventure award winner!

I say either Kid Icarus or Hitman should take it. They were both the return of dearly loved franchises and they both swiched up the formula to make it fantastic.

    Sleeping Dogs it was carzie!?!?!?

The only one of these I played was Kid Icarus. Normally I would admit I'm therefore not entitled to an opinion, but man was that game good. It single-handedly justified my purchase of the entire 3DS. Yes, that game was worth triple figures to me, and I didn't stop until I'd beat every chapter on 9.0 (no easy feat!) Anyone who played Metroid Prime Hunters probably didn't notice anything irksome about the controls at all and I thought they were, conversely, perfect, so it's lucky that I played the hell out of that game too when it was relevant.

Why was "PC" not listed as a platform for Sleeping Dogs and Darksiders 2? Funny, I played both those games on a platform that apparently they don't exist on.

Unfortunately I've only played Dishonored out of all of those games, and it still wouldn't get my vote. I really can't get into it.

Dishonored gets my vote, I've yet to play a decent Steampunk game and then Dishonored showed up and gave me what I wanted, and now that the franchise has been confirmed, I'm eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the series :)

Although I doubt it's going to win, my personal favorite of the listed games is Sleeping Dogs. I just finished it a couple days ago, and I thought it was an amazing game. I'm glad that this game was resurrected by Square Enix.

It would have been better as a true crime title.
  • shawksta - December 7, 2012 3:16 p.m.

Technically it is, its just a different brand
  • nintendo365 - December 7, 2012 8:43 p.m.

Yeah but the cult following of the game was basically ignored when they re-branded it as Sleeping Dogs. I know at least 7 fans that were waiting for True Crime: Shanghai and didnt know that Sleeping Dogs was it resulting in loss of sales for them. It shouldve stayed a True Crime game.
  • sirdilznik - December 7, 2012 9:23 a.m.

Sleeping Dogs was insanely fun. I had a big goofy grin on my face the entire time I played the game.

You bet your ass this years Action Adventure games were exciting. Norrowing it down, One side is Dishonored, the game was short, but the gameplay mechanics were very unique and the whole choices made it so you just had to re-play more than once, the other side, is Kid Icarus Uprising, remaking the image of Pit and co, this game not only did one hell of a fantastic job with the adventure and just big arrays of weapons that all have their attributes, but the fact that the biggest fatass in gaming Sakurai, did what he did best and stuffed the living f*ck out of Uprising till the 3DS couldnt handle it and managed great Multiplayer that makes the gameplay mechanics, and every single weapon meaningful. I have to give it to Uprising, it pushed what it could, the game couldve ended, where it shouldve, but no, it pushed MORE, the quality of the product is very high and the only thing stopping you would have to be if you refused to get the hang of the awkward controls that can be customized. As it should, 25 years and were definitly not getting another game. Dishonored is no way a slouch but compared to what it couldve done, its a second place. Honorable Mention to Gravity Rush, it was very interesting.

Just a quick mention to the voice acting in Uprising, it was just GLORIOUS and seeing as its literally the first major voice acting game by Nintendo, it did one hell of a fantastic job and every cast reprised their role beauitfully and hilariously

Competition is fierce, but I'll be cheering for Gravity Rush as well.
  • GoldenEagle1476 - December 6, 2012 4:14 p.m.

Dishonored. As to why Assassin's Creed III wasn't on here, maybe GR knew it would win and left it off to give the others a chance?
  • taokaka - December 6, 2012 4:03 p.m.

Gravity rush is my action/adventure game of the year, followed by dishonored.
