If you want to see more of the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, you may want to check out these relatively new screenshots, which released over the holiday break. The fresh images come courtesy of Game Informer and show Lara Croft covered in mud, blood, and sweat as she explores some seriously disturbing environments.

Above: Look at that water!

Above: Is it just us? Or does the tip of Lara's belt look funny to you, too?

You can head to Game Informer to view the full gallery of new screenshots.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems odd for her to be wearing a relatively skimpy top with long pants. Yeah, I understand that Crystal Dynamics wants to dispense with the buxom brunette image, and make her appearance a little more true-to-life, and I think it's pretty cool, but a little sexiness couldn't hurt. Also, I'm with mx2000 in that I'm not totally in love with the face.

It looks just like uncharted. Which is not a bad thing. I hope the gameplay is good.

Sadly as a child of the 90s I'll never be able to take Lara seriously as a character. Oh well.

Damn Lara, bring some wet naps next time.

    Looking forward to it.

If you read the GI article, you'd know it's sorta like Tomb Raider meets survival horror in places. It's pretty damn creepy. Want.

Reminds me of the Parasite Eve girl you guys posted long ago.

That creepy altar with the hanging corpse and candles is reminding me of Bioshock/Dead Space; anyone else reckon they might be splicing in some survival horror? That could actually work really well for a game about exploring big creepy tombs...

I'm fine with the body, but I don't like her new face. At all. She looks like a L4D character. But maybe thats just me. Visuals aside, I don't have high hopes for this one. Crystal Dynamics needs to learn how to tell a story and build a relatable character. It has nothing to do with Lara being unrealistic, "sexy for sexualitys sake" (whatever that is supposed to mean) or not being dark and gritty enough. There a plenty of comically unrealistic heros and heroines that are more relatable (Kratos, Bayonetta, etc etc). Heck, Underworld was supposed to be darker and grittier. Literally covering your main character in grit and slush won't make it a better game (it won't make it worse either, though). Here's a good way to start: do more talking. Seriously, Underworld is probably one of most tacit action-adventure games in recent memory. A major character dies, the game hurries through 30 seconds of hackneyed dialogue and Lara goes off to the next tomb to silently raid. I don't see that CD is aware of this, so I don't think this will be a big improvement from the previous games. A character is not just a polygon model.

I'm still not sold. I'm all for the mature take and the gritty take. She's pretty much become Drake though. Why make Lara generic? Just seems to me like a way of making some quick cash. Mildlysadface.

Finally, her boobs aren't as big as her head. She looks real and gritty, and to me that is far more attractive than the unrealistic proportions of yesteryear. I am beyond excited for this game.

Just rip off Uncharted and Im in.

Looks like franchise is going the right direction so far. The new look seems to be working as it looks really great and more mature. But they seriously need to beef up the story considering that UC3 is just around the corner. But I'm pretty much getting excited to see how this will come out and hoping it will pull back the series on track.

Loving the new design, hope their mechanics they're promising work well

I do hope she gets to a paramedic before she bleeds out. Seriously, I'd like to see this new Lara after she's had a chance to freshen up too.

    so...voiced by Nolan North?

That's some sweet ass water! And lulz to the belt.
  • Revanjd - January 5, 2011 1:15 a.m.

Looks like they're going with a mature style this time around. And hopefully it'll have a more realistic story this time. Kind of got tired of the mummies coming back to life stuff.

    It's a trap!
