Windows 8

Why would you need to search for steam games on a windows PC search? You can search within the client.

I have yet to use it myself but there are several things I really do not like the sound of. Most of all, the way it is going to try and turn my powerful desktop system into a really big phone that can't make any calls or be moved around. I would assume that there is not going to be the option to boot into the desktop and instead I will have to manually perform this action each and every boot. That alone would annoy the hell out of me.

Ubuntu/Linux. Valve are supporting it and it runs games faster under OpenGL. Goodbye Microsoft.

There may be Steam on Linux (I'm unsure so I'll go off your info) but I DO know that there are sure not a lot games for Linux. I'd rather stick to Win7 and have my choice of games to play, rather than use Linux and have a small pool of games to play. Also, being a PC gamer I'm elitist enough, do I really need to also run Linux? I might explode from being so much better than everyone else.

Correction. Valve is THINKING about spending money on Developing Steam for Ubuntu/Linux. But the thing about that is not ALL games use the OpenGL. Mostly games using the Unreal Engine and older games use OpenGL. So if you want to play games like BF3, Batman Arkahm City, etc then your stuck on Windows with Direct X 11. Also, where is your tessealtion? Your MXQAA, and AOO in your openGL games? You don' have any, because Open GL is old..and has been surpassed. But that is not to say it still isn't used.

Like the article says, if you have anything other than win 7 already, take the upgrade. The price is right and it's not hard to learn. I updated my Vista laptop and XP netbook to 7, and they run better now than they did new. I'm going to hold off upgrading my gaming rig until more win 8 VM support comes out. I still play alot of older games that won't run in windows 8. If you're confused about the "Metro" interface, don't be. It's just the start menu, intended for tablets, but still functional. On a desktop just open it, select your shit and forget it exists. The taskbar is still there and the task manager is more functional than before. The reason for the cheap update is microsoft wants you to integrate windows with every aspect of your life. Windows computer, windows tablet, windows phone but that strategy only works if everything is up to date. If they can't corner the new, more mobile computing market they will get left behind

Hold on, let me just minimize Skyrim. Man, all those mods sure look nice, but that is besides the point. Lets just read this... wow, is that English? Anyways, it seems your point is mobile will surpass PC? Hmmmm, I think I can use a quote from my friend the TF2 Engineer. "Nope"

tehtimeisnow, I am going to go on record here and say I think apple makes amazing hardware that is excellently designed, but really, ios the best OS? Appple's software is appallingly bad, from the much reported maps issue to the completely broken podcast app right up to their flagship software iTunes bieng a steaming pile of bloated s**t. One thing apple can not do is produce functioning, usable and fast software.

You guys not been on GR in the past six months? This guy crops up everywhere saying roughly this, with his horrible spelling and grammar, he puts good trolls to shame, I miss MetroidPrimeRib.

So your iPhone 5 can play Battlefield 3? It can play Crysis? Where did you get your iPhone 5?
  • taokaka - November 5, 2012 5:34 p.m.

So I'm confused, can you have a taskbar? If not where do you find all your tabs to switch windows? Is there an easy way to access all programs or will I have to relearn how to quickly and easily find programs I don't use often enough to justify sticking them on my desktop? Is Metro mandatory? Is that generic picture of trees your desktop background? Is it easy to change background pictures?

If they would just allow the option to disable the Metro interface...I would upgrade in a heartbeat. However, I think the shell for the start menu doesn't even exist on Windows 8 so it isn't likely to happen, at least not officially.

If I'm correct, you can just boot to the regular desktop instead of the Metro interface and there's an App that turns it into basically what the start menu is so you don't really have to see it.

Smartglass is a Xbox thing.. what does that have to do with PC Gamers?
  • Redeater - November 5, 2012 3:40 p.m.

I'm assuming they are reffering to windows 8 as a whole not just For PC gamers.
