Week of WoW: The Burning Crusade - Day 1: The Draenei

We got started on the new craft of Jewelcrafting as soon as we could, and it looks extraordinarily useful. As you might expect, Jewelcrafting involves making jewelery for the most part. This is useful because there aren't many necklaces or rings available for characters in the early portions of the game - Jewelcrafting remedies this situation by providing ample options for players below level 20. Because Jewelcrafters work predominantly with metals and gems, characters that choose this craft will also want to grab Mining to help gather materials.

Jewelcrafters can do a couple of other nifty things besides creating beautiful baubles and finery. They can harvest crude stone from ore veins and craft them into little healing totems to assist them during combat. These totems resemble small Draenei statues that shoot healing energies at the Jewelcrafter, replenishing health points. Jewelcrafters can also sift through ore to uncover precious gems (five pieces of ore are required for this) in a process called Prospecting.

The Draenei's racial ability of Gemcutting makes Jewelcrafting a natural choice for them as they have an innate degree of skill - which totally figures considering the Exodar is comprised of mostly crystalline materials.

Check back tomorrow when we divulge everything we've been able to find out about the Blood Elves, the latest addition to the ranks of the Horde.
