Rockstar is set to release a PC version of GTA 5 in the first quarter of 2014, multiple industry sources have told Eurogamer. GTA 4 launched on PC about seven months after it debuted on Xbox 360 and PS3, and Rockstar is reported to be working to roughly the same timeframe with its latest game.
Last November, Rockstar vice president Dan Houser said the studio hadn't ruled out releasing the open-world title on additional platforms, with a PC version "up for consideration". Approached for comment this week, a Rockstar representative pointed to a statement posted on its Newswire website in July. "We don't have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now."
While a cranked-up PC version of GTA 5 - which will likely form the basis of Xbox One and PS4 releases - seems like a no-brainer, Rockstar will want to continue to smooth out the issues that have plagued the launch of GTA Online before being seen publicly to be moving on to new versions of the game.
GTA 5 is the fastest selling entertainment property ever, according to publisher Take-Two's estimates, generating more than $1 billion in its first three days on store shelves. And there are plenty of consumers still eager to pick up the title - the biggest gaming-related petition ever hosted on Change.org has just shy of 600,000 signatures urging Rockstar to release GTA 5 on PC.
