Nyko accessory doubles 3DS's battery life

Preemptively disappointed with the relatively short 3D play sessions you'll get out of the Nintendo 3DS? Then Nyko has just what you're looking for, if you don't mind making your portable device a little bit bulkier.

Initial testing has shown the 3DS to peter out in about three hours with 3D mode in full effect - that's not quite enough for a long road trip or cross-country flight. Nyko's Power Pak+ promises to double that, which should provide juice for a good 6-10 hours, depending on how far you crank the 3D switch.

The 3DS is a fairly svelt gadget, so this isn't the most elegant solution. But hey, it's a giant battery pack, so you shouldn't expect it to be. Nyko would probably contend the ergonomics are just fine, though, noting it has "debossed finger resets" for improved comfort. The unit has its own 3DS charger slot so it's easy to recharge the system without removing it from the Power Pak.

Thehefty battery peripheral will be available alongside the 3DS on launch day, March 27, for $19.99. Following that, Nyko will release a separate charging dock for the Power Pak+, which will carry a $29.99 price tag. Anyone biting, or is the 3-5 hours of standard battery life enough for your needs?

Other accessories you can expect to see when you pick up your launch 3DS will likely consist of the same drab carrying cases and "Starter Kits" that seemingly no one wants.
