Jennifer Lawrence talks Mystique in Days Of Future Past

While much of the excitement surrounding X-Men: Days Of Future Past has revolved around the notion of Magneto and Xavier conversing with their younger selves, Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique has almost slipped under the radar…

However, her arc promises to be one of the most intriguing of the new film, with the latest trailer suggesting there has been something of a parting of the ways between she and Magneto.

“We find Raven, she's split off from Eric and Charles and she's kind of her own agent,” says Jennifer Lawrence, whose turn as the young Mystique was one of the highlights of the last film.

“She has one mission of trying to assassinate somebody and it will be her first kill basically, and because we've seen her in the future and what she becomes, this is kind of a turning point for her.”

It will be interesting to see how Mystique’s story fits into the wider narrative of Wolverine and future-Xavier trying to avert sentinel-based catastrophe. Hopefully, time constraints won’t mean she is shunted to the sidelines…

Directed by Bryan Singer and co-starring Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Hugh Jackman, X-Men: Days Of Future Past will open in the UK on 22 May 2014.
