Halo: Combat Evolved remake rumored for this holiday

According to Joystiq, sources have confirmed that a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will be released for the Xbox 360 on November 15, 2011, ten years after the original. The sources also claim that the game will not be a simple HD upscaling - it will include new art assets, 1080p resolution, stereoscopic 3D support, and may feature online co-op.

The remake is supposedly being developed by Saber Interactive, the developer responsible for TimeShift, and is allegedly one of two Halo games currently being overseen by 343 Industries, Microsoft's internal Halo-dedicated studio.

Recently, Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor stated that there were "no new [Halo] games to announce right now," and that the team is "not working on any side stories." When pressed for information on what's next for Master Chief, O'Connor responded, "I imagine he will be chilling. Literally."

We wouldn't be surprised if this alleged Halo remake is real and released this year, with a new Halo entry coming in 2012. We also wouldn't be surprised if Halo 2 received the same treatment. Nevertheless, until we have an official announcement from Microsoft, we can't confirm it.
