Civil War will see the start of Marvel's Phase 3 movie plans, which will include everything from Doctor Strange to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Speaking in this month's Empire directors Joe and Anthony Russo are setting up some big changes to mark the transition.
"We look at this movie [Civil War] as setting the stage for Infinity War," the brother's explain, talking of the two-part Avengers movies due in 2018 and 2019. "We wanted Winter Soldier, Civil War, and the Infinity War films to have a strong through line".
That means it's up to Cap's next film to set the scene for Infinity War and, according to the Russos, "how it starts and what condition everybody is in." And it doesn't sound like it's going to be fun for those involved. Apparently, "the consequences of Civil War will have an even more significant impact [than The Winter Soldier]."
Quite what happens, or how it impacts people, remains to be seen but the Russo brothers conclude by stating "in Civil War, we’re going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s psychology, and it’s an extreme shift."
Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan, Captain America: Civil War opens in UK cinemas on April 29, 2016 and May 6, 2016 in the US.
