American remake of Luther on the way

Another British TV show is set to make its way Stateside, with Fox planning to remake crime drama Luther for an American audience.

According to Variety, the show's original creator Neil Cross has been roped in to assist with the show's development, while Idris Elba will also fulfil an executive producer's role.

The move follows Fox's remake of Broadchurch, Gracepoint, which has been met by low ratings and scathing critical reception, the primary complaint being that remaking the UK version was a wholly unnecessary move.

Whether Luther can avoid the same reaction remains to be seen, particularly given that the original show is already widely available in the US, but presumably Fox has learned a few lessons from its previous endeavours…
