50 Movie Sidekicks Who Stole The Show

Bagheera - The Jungle Book (1967)

The Sidekick: Not only sidekick to young Indian boy Mowgli, but also the narrator of his tale. Bagheera's a black panther, and, yes, he does turn his tail on Mowgli for a while, but he's there when it counts.

Most Charming Moment: Even Bagheera isn't immune to Hiss' charms, getting hypnotised in a tree - before Mowgli comes to his rescue.

Gort - The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)

The Sidekick: An eight-foot-tall humanoid, Gort travels to Earth with alien Klaatu and is capable of destroying the entire planet - should they decide that there's nothing worthy about the third rock from the sun.

Most Charming Moment:
Gort becomes a hero by rescuing Klaatu and temporarily resuscitating him.

Wilson - Castaway (2000)

The Sidekick: Good listener. Understanding. Occasionally considered full of hot air, but otherwise this guy's a solid, non-judgmental best friend who'll always be there.

Unless he gets somehow lost at sea.

Most Charming Moment: As Chuck (Tom Hanks) rants angrily at him, Wilson just sits there calmly.

Danny - Hot Fuzz (2007)

The Sidekick: A bumbling good-heart, Danny's (Nick Frost) a small-time cop with small-time ideals - which means he's somewhat baffled by the arrival of super-cop Angel (Simon Pegg).

They complete each other.

Most Charming Moment: This: "Is it true that there's a point on a man's head where if you shoot it, it will blow up?"

Cyrus - The Frighteners (1996)

The Sidekick: A 1970s gangster, Cyrus (Chi McBride) is just one of the sidekicks of ghost hunter Frank (Michael J. Fox).

Also? He's dead.

Most Charming Moment: Cyrus has a rant: "You know if I wanted to get shot at everyday, I'd move my black ass to Los Angeles!"

Harry Dunne - Dumb & Dumber (1994)

The Sidekick: The shaggy-haired compadre of equally-stupid Lloyd (Jim Carrey), Harry is pretty much as thick as they come, but there's no denying his loyalty to Lloyd.

Most Charming Moment: That toilet scene.

Oh alright, we're kidding. WE'RE KIDDING!

Donkey - Shrek (2001-2010)

The Sidekick: On the surface, Donkey's the most annoying sidekick ever. Loud. Mulish. Subtle as a spade in the teeth.

Luckily, he's also sort of heroic and just wants to do the right thing.

Most Charming Moment: "You got to try a little tenderness!"

Donkey deals out some sound advice by channelling Otis Redding.

Cato Fong - A Shot In The Dark (1964)

The Sidekick: The steadfast man-servant of Inspector Clouseau, Cato Fong (Burt Kwouk) has basically one rule he must live by - constantly and unexpectedly attacking Clouseau to keep his wits sharp.

Most Charming Moment: "Inspector Clouseau's residence?" Cato says, answering the phone mid-kerfuffle. "One moment please…"

Grim Reaper - Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)

The Sidekick: When Bill and Ted are murdered by future robot versions of themselves (we love this movie), they meet Death, and plead for their lives. Soon, though, he becomes a valuable aid.

Most Charming Moment: Attempting to top the guys in the board game stakes - he goes from losing at chess to losing at Twister.

"Best three out of five?"

Ron & Hermione - Harry Potter (2001-2011)

The Sidekicks: Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is so special he gets two sidekicks in the very different forms of bumbling Ron (Rupert Grint) and super-toff Hermione (Emma Watson).

Most Charming Moment:
The bit where they fall out over the dance in Goblet Of Fire. She's angry-crying, he's blokishly bemused.
