Lego Rivendell is my favorite kit of all time, and it just got a rare discount
I don't mean to alarm you, but my favorite Lego set just got a big price cut

Heads up folks, because you've got another chance to snatch up some of the best Lego sets ever made for a fraction of the normal price.
More specifically: look out, they're taking the hobbits to... Amazon? As luck would have it, you can currently grab my all-time favorite Lego set, Lego Rivendell, for a heavily reduced £365 at Amazon instead of £430. Similarly, the dark and moody follow-up, Lego Barad-dur, has returned to a record low price of £339.98 at Amazon, down from £400. I can count on the figures of one hand how many times this happens in a year, and it's normally around sales season. As such, that's worth shouting about (even if hopping up and down and gesticulating wildly at these deals does make me look like a fool of a Took).
Lego Rivendell | £429.99 £365 at Amazon
Save £64.99 - Heads up people, because the Last Homely House has only ever been a couple of quid cheaper than this in the past. It averages between £415 and £420 most of the time, so that £60-odd off is excellent value.
Buy it if:
✅ You want a true centerpiece
✅ You've got lots of display space
Don't buy it if:
❌ You don't have room to display it

Lego Barad-dur | £399.99 £339.98 at Amazon
Save £60 - A record low price, you say? Lovely. The Dark Lord's fortress hasn't ever been cheaper, so it's nice to see a return to that reduction. It's normally closer to £380 as well, so you can build me a Lego set worthy of Mordor for a lot less than usual.
Buy it if:
✅ You find the bad guys more interesting
✅ You have Rivendell already
Don't buy it if:
❌ You're running out of display space

It goes without saying that these two kits are impressive; even with that high cost, I'd argue they're genuinely worth every penny for fans. In fact, I've said for a long time that Rivendell is one of the best Lego sets of all time, full stop - and I stand by that a couple of years later. As I pointed out in my five-star Lego Rivendell review, it "captures the beloved location's atmosphere through smart design choices and a layout crammed with detail, leaving us with one of the best sets Lego has ever made."
Two years on from building it and I still think that. I put the finished model up in my dining room on a shelf in pride of place, and will often stop to admire it as I tootle about my daily chores. It's the rare kind of model that you'll still find hidden corners to look at even after it's finished, and there are plenty of secrets tucked out of sight in this elven hideaway. Pieces lifting off easily to reveal the goodies beneath are another bonus.
The same is definitely true of Barad-dur. This behemoth of a model is surprisingly tall and can be turned around to reveal numerous rooms with plenty going on inside, be it an orc banquet hall (meat's back on the menu, boys) to a palantir seeing stone and Sauron's throne room. Although I prefer Rivendell on the whole, there's no denying how impressive it is. It's got a presence you simply can't beat.
It seems to be a busy time for discounts on Lego sets right now; there are numerous Lego deals floating around, from the Deku Tree to various Star Wars kits. A wealth of Harry Potter models are slashed in price at the moment too, so I'd hurry over to Amazon if you want to build up your collection for less. I've been covering both toys and sales for years now, and you rarely see a range of savings this steep outside of events like Prime Day or Black Friday.
