Top 10 Sci-Fi Bargains Of The Week

The SFX Friday Bargains Top 10 Round-Up; a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a web feature that does not exist. Captain Coinsaver; a young (ish) loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world full of retailers who charge above the odds prices. The SFX Friday Bargains Round-Up; a lone crusade in a dangerous world. The world of the Bargain Hunter.

Here’s what caught our eye this week…

1 Avatar Limited Edition Set

First up we have James Cameron’s Avatar in a limited edition lenticular artwork case. The set features Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and DVD versions of the film. Amazon has the film in this week’s “Deals Of tTe Week” for £14.25 . We still reckon the Ewoks from Star Wars would kick the giant Smurf’s arses and would pay to see that battle.

2 Weapons Of Middle-earth

Next we have the perfect item for any angry dwarves, hobbits or cosplayers out there. First we found this authentic toy replica of a dwarf throwing axes from The Hobbit , which can be yours for £7.27 from Amazon . Secondly we have a recreation of Bilbo’s “Sting” . The sword even lights up when enemies are near. “Sting” can be yours for just £10.49 and even has a little “One Ring” to go along with it.

3 Ladies’ Zombie T-Shirt

Something for the ladies who like zombies next with this David and Goliath zombie T-Shirt design. The gruesome shirt is available from Chicks Rule for £10 .

4 Looper Blu-ray

The next item, Looper , was almost our pre-order of the week in last week’s bargains and just seven days later you can still pick it up for a good price. The time travel we buy, but believing that Joseph Gordon Levitt will grow up to be Bruce Willis? That’s something we’re not so sure about… Sainsbury’s have the film on Blu-ray for £12.99 . If you’d prefer DVD, then you can grab it from Amazon or Sainsbury’s for £9.99 .

5 Transformers T-Shirt

You can show your love for those robots in disguise with our fifth offering. This colourful Transformer logo T-shirt is available from Asda for the tiny price of £7 . The T-Shirt does not transform into a robot unfortunately.

6 The Fifth Element Blu-ray

Bruce Willis pops up again this week in Luc Besson’s mad and colourful 1997 sci-fi hit. The Fifth Element can be your on Blu-ray for only £7.50 . If you’re a fan of the DVD then you can grab the film on that format for a mere £4 .

7 Tremors Franchise DVD Collection

Tremors is a franchise now? We didn’t even know there were four Tremors films but you can’t sniff at this set which brings you all four outings for the giant sand worms in one DVD boxed set for £9.95 . You can pick it up from Zavvi . Unfortunately there’s only Bacon in one of the films.

8 Planet Of The Apes Blu-ray Box-Set

We have a big box of monkeys for you next. The complete Planet Of The Apes has all seven of the various Apes cinematic hijinks put to film to date and can be found at Amazon for £22.75 .

If you’d prefer you monkey fun on DVD then Amazon have the box-set going for £24.25 which is actually a little more expensive than the Blu-ray but is still less than £4 a film.

9 Novelty Socks

Something to keep your geeky feet warm over the winter; Asda has a selection of novelty socks. The first set features four pairs of socks with Batman, Superman, The Flash and Green Lantern on them (though listed on the site as “Marvel” socks – ho hum) and are available for just £6 . The second set we found have the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on them and cost the same bargaintastic price of £6 . Feet in a half shell?

10 Doctor Who: The Ark In Space

Finally for this week we have a Doctor Who pre-order for you. The new improved “special edition” of the Tom Baker adventure “The Ark in Space” will be in shops from 18 February. You can order it from ASDA for £12.97 . (But keep an eye on Sendit – it was offering this DVD for £11.99, but when we came to do our final checks before posting this week’s Bargains, the price on that site was suddenly the full RRP. We assume this is an error, and the price may fall again.)

If you can’t wait that long Amazon has the old version available right now and it’s going for £8.88 .

That’s all for this week bargain hunters. Remember; if anyone out there finds anything we’ve brought you this week cheaper somewhere else please mention it in the comments section below.
