Another tech demo, only this one caused no small excitement given that it shared a name with a certain long-rumoured Mario project. Featuring 128 Marios running crazy around a sphere, the technology demonstrated would later be used for the crowd-control elements of Pikmin and the sphere-based gravitational physics of Super Mario Galaxy.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Four Horsemen was pretty racy for a GameCube title, featuring religious themes, a main character who worked part-time as a prostitute, and loads of viscera-coated freaks. But that’s not why it was cancelled. Instead, publisher 3DO went bankrupt. Whoops…

Dead Rush

Imagine, if you will, Grand Theft Auto III set during a zombie holocaust. That intoxicating premise was the idea behind the ill-fated Dead Rush, which would see zombies pile onto whatever vehicle the player commandeered and attempt to tear him out of there. Of all the games here, we shed the most tears over Dead Rush.
