It may come to surprise you (though not if you read D in our list) but the man behind Pixar has also been one of the driving forces to bringing Studio Ghibli to the English-speaking world. Lasseter has been best friends with Hayao Miyazaki for over 30 years, despite neither man speaking the other’s language. Lasseter has personally over-seen the English language dubbing of Ponyo , Tales From Earthsea , Howl’s Moving Castle and the Oscar-winning Spirited Away .

The latest film from Studio Ghilbli, From Up On Poppy Hill , arrives in UK cinemas on 2 August. Featuring the voice talent of Gillian Anderson, Christina Hendricks, Jamie Lee Curtis, Anton Yelchin and Aubrey Plaza and is directed by Goro Miyazaki.
