Simon Pegg is co-writing Star Trek 3

Simon Pegg will be co-writing the script for Star Trek 3 as well as co-starring as Scotty.

The news was broken by Deadline and confirmed by a tweet from Pegg’s account this morning.

He will be collaborating with a less well-known name: Doug Jung, whose most significant credit so far is creating the undercover-cop drama Dark Blue for TNT.

This seems like a very good fit. Pegg is, of course, a lifelong Trekker, and has a string of screenwriting credits including Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, Paul and The World’s End.

Surely he can find a way to write in a Cornetto? Maybe just have an Andorian crew member casually licking one in the background.

Pegg joins Fast & Furious director Justin Lin, who recently took over the director’s chair from Roberto Orci.
