UPDATE: It seems this rumor was quashed ina tweet from Major Nelson. But still, it should be done. We're sad now.
According to a Facebook post from the Xbox Germany team, the Xbox Live friends list cap will soon be raised from 100 to 1,000. The now-deleted post, poorly translated to English, read, "A lot of long-term change was desired by Xbox LIVE users the limit of 100 friends. With the update you can now up to 1,000 friends of your friends list. How many friends do you have? Not enough? Then you looking for new friends on the Finder tab!"
Rumor has it that the 100 friend cap was carried over from the original Xbox Live to maintain support for Halo 2. For the sake of backward compatibility, the 360's infrastructure needed to remain the same. That may or may not be true, butthis announcement coming after the recent closure of the old XBL servers, and the end of online Halo 2 matches, givesthe rumormore credence.
Of course, the friends list increase itself is also a rumor, rumored to purportedly be possibly true.
If you've ever participated in one of our 24 hour marathons or other gaming sessions, you know what great news this could be for us. The 100 friend cap made it difficult to engage with everyone we wanted to, and forced us to constantly delete swaths of friends to accommodate new ones. We hope Germany is telling it like it is!
