After nabbing an Oscar for his performance in Capote and playing the baddie in M:i:III, Philip Seymour Hoffman is in demand even more than usual. He’s just finished shooting indie drama The Savages and doesn’t look like he’s slowing down at all.
After ploughing through a mountain of offers, he’s picked a couple of high profile projects. First up is Sidney Lumet’s new drama, Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead. The plot follows two brothers who attempt to rob their parents’ jewellery store, only for events to go awfully pear-shaped. Hoffman will co-star alongside Ethan Hawke, Albert Finney and Marisa Tomei.
Once that’s complete, he’ll go to war – alongside Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Charlie Wilson’s War, to be exact, which chronicles how a dirty US politician and CIA agent secretly armed rebels in Afghanistan during the early 1980s. The movie boasts a script by A Few Good Men’s Aaron Sorkin, who has adapted George Crile’s book. Mike Nichols is barking the orders on that one.
