New screens give Rise of the Tomb Raider a 'Classic Lara Croft' makeover

UPDATE: Our sister mag OPM, who recently had an exclusive look at Rise of the Tomb Raider, has filled us in on the details of Lara's five unlockable outfits. They're taken from Tomb Raider (the manor outfit), Tomb Raider II (both classic look, and bomber jacket), Tomb Raider Chronicles (catsuit), and Angel Of Darkness (default look, with shades). You can read much more of OPM's extensive coverage in issue 126, on sale now.

ORIGINAL STORY: Earlier this year, Square Enix announced that the upcoming PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider would feature five 'classic Lara' skins for use in the game – and it's chosen Gamescom to deliver a sneak peek at a couple of these models.

It would be a lie to state that old-school Lara meshes naturally with Rise's modern 3D character designs, but it's still hilarious to see her plonked in a contemporary game with a near-perfect recreation of her polygonal PS1 form.

Square Enix hasn't yet specified exactly which five Laras we're getting, but the we do know we're getting 1996 PS1 original, and the jacket from the other pics looks to be straight out of Tomb Raider 2.

Other features headed to the PS4 version are a new Blood Ties solo story and nightmare, enhanced co-op, and an 'extreme survivor' difficulty setting. All previous DLC is also included.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is released for PS4 on October 11, 2016.
