Stupid BioWare. PS3 fans were already mega excited about Mass Effect 2 coming to Sony’s console, and now you’ve got to go and angry up their blood (in the best possible way) by announcing the game will actually use Mass Effect 3’s engine. Space pantaloons don’t come cheap, you know.

During a recent BioWare podcast, Jesse Houston (who is producer on the PS3 version of Shepard’s sequel) admitted: “We’ve actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and used that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content and the story and all the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put them in the Mass Effect 3 engine. And that‘s what we are actually delivering.”

Exciting stuff. This may well mean the PS3 port will look considerably better than the 360 original, while also giving us a pretty good idea of what the third game will look like. Of course, 360 players can still take solace in the fact they got to enjoy the epic space opera a full year before PS3 owners.
The PS3 version will also have an interactive back story comic (catchy!) made by Dark Horse, which will fill in Mass Effect virgins on all the alien-sexing shenanigans of the first game.
