With the first trailer dropping earlier in the week, excitement surrounding The Wolverine is reaching fever pitch. The perfect time then for Hugh Jackman to stoke the flames by mentioning Jean Grey’s involvement…
The film is set after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand in which Jean met a sticky end having been overtaken by the Phoenix entity. According to Jackman, its an event that still weigh’s heavy on the hero’s heart.
“There’s no doubt that the most important relationship in his life is — we’ve seen through the movies — is his relationship with Jean Grey,” says Jackman.
“Yes, we saw her die at the end of X-Men: The Last Stand , but in this movie, she has a presence which I think is vital to the movie, particularly for him confronting the most difficult thing within himself.”
Which sounds to us as though Famke Janssen will be making an appearance (as glimpsed in the trailer), if only in flashback. Whether or not that leads on to a reappearance in X-Men: Days Of Future Past remains to be seen, but we can hope…
The Wolverine opens in the UK on 26 July 2013.
