PS Direct is currently listing an "exclusive" Turtle Beach accessory bundle. At a quick glance, it appears to be a combo of two high-quality PS5 accessories and two of our team's favorites to boot. But on a second look, it's not really the deal it makes itself out to be.
The Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded Wireless Modular Controller & Atlas 200 Wired Headset Bundle isn't awful. You're getting one of the best PS5 headsets and a revised version of one of the best PS5 controllers together, but it's the cost that's not worth the effort.
The US PS Direct store has the bundle listed for $249.99 (PS Direct), which would be a deal on an average day. The Victrix Pro BFG has a $209.99 MSRP, and when combined with the $59.99 MSRP of the Atlas 200, there's a saving of $19.99 here. Yet, thanks to Amazon and this cheeky controller deal, you're better off ignoring this bundle and grabbing them separately to save the most cash.
The Turtle Beach Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded Wireless controller is down to just $169.99 at Amazon, saving you $40 off its full price. When combined with the $59.99 MSRP of the Atlas 200 headset, that total only takes you up to $229.98, a saving of $20 off the PS Direct bundle. If you want to save cash today, you're far better off grabbing both accessories separately, especially if you're a Prime member and have free shipping to take advantage of.
If you do, you're in for a treat. The Turtle Beach Atlas 200 for PS5 is one of my favorite budget headsets I've tested to date. Its microphone is pretty subpar and will make your voice sound like that muffled plane announcer quality, but the audio is anything but. During my initial testing, I was amazed at how the sound felt almost on par with alternatives like the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5P Wireless, which are more than double its cost. That's because the 50mm Nanoclear audio drivers are great at bringing balance to low, mid, and high frequencies, and there's Tempest 3D AudioTech support that brings games to life.
I tested the pair with the indie horror Still Wakes the Deep, and the creepy muttering of the monsters was so crystal clear that there were moments where it felt like they were in the room with me. The only downside besides its muddying mic, is that this is a wired pair, so you will have to be happy with popping it into the 3.5mm port of your DualSense controller. But luckily, there's one included on the Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded controller too.
This controller is essentially a re-release of the Victrix Pro BFG, one of our hardware team's Duncan Robertson's favorite PS5 pads. The original version, which Duncan heralded for its modular design, allows you to swap out the facial components to your liking and was available for $179.99. It's been prone to discounts over the years, and normally, I'd suggest grabbing it over the "Reloaded" version, but it has shot up to $199.99 in price at retailers like Amazon today, perhaps due to dwindling stock.
Instead, you can grab the Reloaded version for $10 less than the previous model's MSRP, and get yourself some new Hall effect modules in the process. These were sold separately for the older model, but come packaged with this new iteration in all three of the provided modules that you get right in the box.
If you had your eyes on that PS Direct bundle, grabbing both it and the Atlas 200 headset separately on Amazon is the cheaper option today. If you've ever wanted proof that you're best always double-checking the actual value of gaming bundles, let this PS Direct "exclusive" bundle be it.
