Sennheiser unveiled its brand new Momentum 5 headphones on May 26, 2026, the next evolution up from the Momentum 4 that's been available since 2022. The new pair is very similar to its predecessor, as both share the same 42mm transducer speakers and look practically identical.
Where the new $399.99 (Sennheiser) headphones differ is through the inclusion of Hi-res certified audio, a user-replaceable 700 mAh battery, and a new active noise cancelling system. If you're still reeling over the loss of the EPOS Sennheiser partnership and were hoping to replace your old cups with that audiphile-level sound the brands' pair was known for, these are set to launch on June 16. However, with no boom microphone or 2.4GHz wireless, you won't get all you need for gaming.
As a pair of headphones rather than a headset, the launch details don't actually reference gaming in any way. Regardless, I know for a fact that many fans of the audiophile-level quality Sennheiser headsets are known for may want to pick these up specifically for PC and consoles. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're comfortable losing out on some key features.
Before the EPOS and Sennheiser team-up came to an end in 2023, headsets like the EPOS Sennheiser GSP 670 were known for their high-quality microphones. If you were eager to grab a new Sennheiser pair for that reason alone, you'll be disappointed, as there is no flip-to-mute boom mic on this upcoming pair.
Additionally, the Momentum 5 ships with Bluetooth 5.4 wireless support in the box, and a future firmware update is on its way to make it compatible with Bluetooth 6.0, but there are no 2.4GHz options to be found. That makes compatibility more limited when consoles like the PS5 don't natively support Bluetooth, but you should be fine when it comes to your gaming PC and handhelds like the Nintendo Switch 2. The pair also comes packaged with a 3.5mm analog audio cable, which will give you wired access where Bluetooth is unavailable.
Otherwise, the Momentum 5 sounds pretty impressive, and I'd be curious how its " full-bodied sound with dynamic bass" and Hi-Res Audio lends itself to my favorite PS5 titles.
There are four microphones per side onboard to power up its ANC tech, and those who grab the pair early can get access to Dolby Atmos with headtracking to increase immersion.
The Sennheiser Momentum 5 will be $399.99 at launch in the US, which is a lot to fork out on a pair not designed for gaming, and one that only provides no wireless dongle or boom arm microphone for chatting to friends online. If you're on the hunt for a premium headset with Hi-res audio, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Omni is available for the same price, while music-heads can stick to the Momentum 5, which will be available at sennheiser-hearing.com and "select" US retailers.
