Mario Day is incoming, but my mind is solely on the Super Mario series' best girl - Princess Rosalina. It's not just because the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie she stars in is closer than ever before. But because Hori has revealed an incoming controller that pays homage to the majestic space princess, in all her sparkly glory.

The best Switch 2 controllers and last-gen pads have depicted all sorts of Mario characters over the years, but Hori's new controller is the first time I've seen Rosalina officially take the accessory limelight. It's part of an upcoming new 'Mario Universe' line, which Hori informed me directly is expected to launch around March 27 in the UK, and features two Wireless Horipad Turbo controllers, including a Rosalina version, and a matching Switch 2 case. While the Rosalina controller is just a re-skin of a pre-existing pad, its stunning stellar design is now all I can think about ahead of Mario Day.

There's still time to grab the new Princess Rosalina amiibo

A Rosalina controller feels well overdue. Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 were re-released on the Switch 2 and original Switch consoles on October 2, 2025 and, while a set of two amiibo figures based on Rosalina and Mario was unveiled at the time, it was all hush on the Switch 2 accessories front.

The gamepad doesn't just feature recycled Rosalina art that's been around for years, either, but it appears like an entirely new render of her floating in space while holding her iconic storybook. She's draped right across the d-pad and middle of the face plate, surrounding my swirling turquoise stars that match the gorgeous green-blue hue of her dress.

Hori also included a stunning purple gradient that travels from the bottom of the ergonomic grips up, which perfectly encapsulates the pretty depths of space, but it's not all looks for this stunning pad. Hori has also equipped this version of the Horipad Turbo with TMR sticks that rely on electromagnetic tech to avoid being riddled with stick drift like the original Switch Joy-Cons. These are joined by turbo functionality, gyro controls, re-mappable back buttons, and a button lock feature to help avoid unwanted presses.

If that all sounds good to you, but you aren't the biggest Rosalina fan, there's also a 'Universe Mario' variant of the same pad. It has all the other bells and whistles, but swaps the art of the best princess for Mario instead. The purple gradient has also been replaced with a turquoise colorway, but this controller also includes a slight translucency.

This upcoming drop of Switch 2 accessories also includes the matching Princess Rosalina Switch 2 Vault Case and is expected to release just ahead of the Super Mario Movie April 1 release date.

I'll be sure to pop back and update you on pricing if you're as eager to make this controller, and the rest of the set, yours. However, if you love Rosalina and have cash to burn, I recommend checking out the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie toys, which also star everyone's favorite Super Mario space princess.

Hardware Editor

Ever since I first held a NES controller in my hand I've been obsessed with gaming, and the hardware it runs on. I could hook up a NES and SNES to a telly, without instructions, before I could walk. Even now, nothing is more exciting then taking a console, or handheld, out the box for the first time and setting it up. This obsession transformed into a love of games and game music, which lead to my music degree and dream of becoming the Scottish Nobuo Uematsu. After sharing my love of games through music, I began to share my love through words on sites like TechRadar and iMore. This lead to becoming a Hardware staff writer for PCGamesN, and later the Senior Tech Writer for Dexerto, covering all things Steam Deck, PlayStation and Nintendo. With that experience, I was able to level up as Hardware Editor for GamesRadar+, where I'm still just as Nintendo, PlayStation and gaming tech obsessed as ever.
