Oct 29, 2007
Last Friday, the cream of the games industry gathered in London town for the Golden Joysticks awards, the only videogame awards voted for by you, the gamers on the ground. And, thanks to real gamers like yourselves, Gears of War walked away with the Ultimate Game of the Year 2007 accolade, beating off competition from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Sports and Final Fantasy XII. Well done, Epic.
GoW's heavy action shooterthon also scored the Xbox Game of the Year 2007 award, the Editor's Choice award and the Nuts All-Nighter award. Though we're guessing that last one was for what you'd play all night, not for being the game that gave poor delicate Nuts readers terrible nightmares.
Elsewhere, Nintendo won a triple-header of awards, earning the distinction of Publisher of the Year 2007, the Innovation of the Year 2007 for Wii and the Sun newspaper sponsored Family Game of the Year 2007 for Wii Sports.
There were 18 awards at this year's Golden Joysticks, and we've collated the winners for you below...
