Xenoblade Genesis has been announced with a surprising amount of fantasy RPG in there, and it's coming in 2027.
After four years, a new entry in the Xenoblade series has been confirmed for the Switch 2. And we got a pretty substantial look at the game with a number of cutscenes being shown off. Unlike the Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy which mixed sci-fi and fantasy, this new entry is going hard on the fantasy RPG aspects of the series.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was already confirmed to be the end of the main narrative that began in some very spoilery events in Xenoblade Chronicles 1, so to see something so different here isn't exactly a surprise.
Akin to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, you'll be attending a school named Lekuos, with large-scale battles shown off in various cutscenes, implying you'll be waging war throughout the game. We also saw some of the open world with horse riding and dragon flight seemingly confirmed as traversal options.
Before showing the new Xenoblade game however, Nintendo confirmed that all three Xenoblade Chronicles games will be getting Nintendo Switch 2 Edition releases. They'll all be getting 4K resolution and 60fps docked and 1080p resolution and 60fps handheld boosts, with enhanced resolution and framerates for in-game cutscenes too.
On top of that, the Switch 2 Edition versions of all three games are getting bonuses. The first game is adding a "high-speed vehicle" and voiced Heart-to-Heart conversations, the second is getting "mercenary squad battles, "a new rare Blade and quest, while the third is getting a wave-based horde mode, a new hero and quest, and voiced event scenes.
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition releases today digitally, with Xenoblade 2 set to release on July 30 digitally. Sadly, fans of 3 have a bit longer to wait as the Switch 2 Edition won't release until December 3. Let's just hope they are better than the Switch 2 Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles X.
