Gears of War: Judgement, Outriders dev's FPS survival game Lost Rift hits Early Access in September

People Can Fly – who you might recognize from Gears of War: Judgement, Outriders, or beyond – is moving forward with its next project, a survival FPS called Lost Rift that's coming to Early Access on September 25.

The news was revealed in a new trailer at the Future Games Show at Gamescom, showcasing the many genres Lost Rift draws inspiration from. We first see a group of five people wandering a mysterious island before we get a glimpse of the base building, followed by some shots of an animal you can feed. Seems quite chill.

Then, we get some of the PvPvE gameplay as gunfights kick off between rival players, with some beasties thrown in for good measure, giving us some spice from the extraction shooter handbook.

It's at this point that the trailer says, "make it home, or lose it all," which seems to sum it all up nicely. Although, that's not where the trailer ends. We're left with a mysterious apparition slowly drifting through an abandoned facility. While Lost Rift may feature plenty of the chill basebuilding you know and love, there are plenty of dangers out in the wilds.

Over on Steam, developer People Can Fly says it anticipates Early Access lasting "around 12 months," though, "ultimately, we will release 1.0 when both we, the developers, and you, the community, feel it is ready.”

The developer adds: "The initial Early Access version of Lost Rift includes the foundation of the game experience.

"Over time, accessible parts of the world, extraction-driven expeditions, and the island's narrative will grow—along with new biomes, landmarks, game systems, weapons, loot, crafting items, building materials, predators, prey, and human enemies."

Lost Rift comes to Early Access September 25.
