If you're craving some more Alan Wake 2, horror RPG The Pines is pretty much as close as you get without Remedy making it
Solo dev Studio Abattoir is bringing us a new psychological horror
The Pines is channeling some serious Alan Wake 2 energy, complete with creepy ringing phones, small town Americana, and a tonne of creepy stuff going down in the woods.
That's no bad thing though, psychological horror RPG The Pines is looking awesome in the new trailer that just dropped at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase, and with over 15,000 Steam wishlists to date, clearly there's plenty who agree with me.
You play as former detective Edward Walker, who's been burnt out by a case gone cold. After his therapist recommends a retreat at the secluded The Pines facility, he thinks he might have a chance to find some peace and recover from his traumas.
But of course, that's not exactly how it all goes down.
Both The Pines and the open world beyond it is filled with darkness and secrets. You'll have to befried its residents, join groups and factions, discover their stories and create your unique Edward Walker.
Every choice matters, and those decisions will impact not just Edward but the people he meets too.
But it's not just talking of course, there's danger to face too, and with guns and ammo being rather scarce, tools become your arsenal of course from fire axes to baseball bats. Combat revolves around being able to dodge, parry, and eventually strike at the right moment, or just grabbing something sharp enough.
Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more
The Pines is pencilled in with a 2027 launch date, so there's a little while to wait. But this solo dev project from Studio Abattoir is definitely one to follow, so wishlist it on Steam now to stay in the loop.
