Valve MOBA Deadlock gets perhaps its biggest update yet with 6 new characters, another mode, revamped postgame and tons more
Old Gods, New Blood is bringing two new heroes a week for the next three weeks
Valve's Frankensteined MOBA shooter, Deadlock, just got maybe its biggest update so far.
The hero shooter hybrid has been in beta over on Steam for well over a year, but the developer is still steadily improving on all parts of the game, most recently with yesterday's 'Old Gods, New Blood' update that debuted six new heroes coming over the course of the next three weeks and much, much more.
Starting with the new playable characters – they're the highlight of every MOBA, no? – Valve has released key art revealing the werewolf-ish Silver, necromancer Graves, unicorn-horned performer Celeste, arms expert Venator, sword-wielding Apollo, and one creature I'm absolutely obsessed with, Rem, who's a mix between a rat and what looks like a lemur. Either way, just look at his teeny, tiny pyjamas.
Valve says that two new heroes will drop into the game every week, one on Mondays and one on Thursdays, starting January 26. Players' votes will determine who gets in first and you can earn more votes by simply playing, per the update's announcement page.
The other headlining feature of Old Gods, New Blood is a new self-proclaimed "fast-paced game mode" called Street Brawl, which is a quicker four-vs-four and best-of-five-rounds match where players shop from a more streamlined, random set of items between each round.
Valve's long list of changes is scarily extensive, though. So extensive they can't be contained in the confines of a GamesRadar+ post, so I'll quickly run through the biggest now, ready? New bosses, new troopers, new bases, and new items. Revamped postgame summaries and MVP scoring. Various UI improvements, such as visibility outlines, new damage numbers, visible kill streaks, and a random hero button. Several new options in the settings menu. Map updates with new underground tunnels for smaller characters like Rem, and so much more.
